I've been running W7 RC on a latitude e6400 and a custom PC. Both work like a champ!

Windows 7 is the first Microsoft OS since Dos 6.22 that I actually run because I like it, and not because I have to. When Cario (a shell replacement) is out It will be PERFECT! I cannot get Litestep to work in Windows 7 64 bit, and no good shell replacement is my only gripe.

Why do you like Windows 7 so much? Why should I spend $150+ for Windows 7 when I can stick with Vista or XP?

Personally I'll be upgrading because although XP works perfectly fine it is outdated. Microsoft finally got it right with 7 too.

Wow, it's only going to cost me $50 retail to upgrade? That's nice ... wonder what OEM prices will be.

Build 7100 running here and working with all the programs I've thrown at it, and has working drivers for all my hardware.

I hated Vista, but someone at M$ actually put some thought into how 7 should work, and I really, really, like it.

loving Win7 beta so far.

I'm probably going to build a new system when it releases officially... I've been wanting to move to a solid-state OS drive for awhile.

I have yet to see a negative comment about Windows 7. That just makes me more skeptical. However, considering most of the positive comments I've read have been on these forums, they actually carry some credibility in my book.

If it's less than $150 for a full version that doesn't have bullshit restrictions like Vista, I might actually buy it. Maybe.

This sums up my feelings on the subject. Been running X64, build 7100 since it was released. I never used Vista before; so this is all new to me. Everything's NOT where it's supposed to be...but it runs really well, can use 4GB+ of RAM and has built-in drivers for everything and it JUST WORKS.

XP Diehard Fan...been converted. I will pay my money to upgrade when the RC expires.

I think there are plenty of negatives to 7, and I'm sure as more people use it they will start to become more pronounced. I don't particularly know of any- though I know I've read negative feedback about 7.

I didn't particularly hate vista - I didn't think it was much of an upgrade to XP, but it was an upgrade. After using vista for a year and going back to XP things really were quite different. With Windows 7 I really really like it and think it's quite a good upgrade from Vista (and XP). I didn't think I'd like the new taskbar but I've found it to be pretty nice to use.

I think the thing that'll hamper 7 is if Microsoft does go crazy with either the retail/oem pricing and makes it a pain to install/verify/etc. What'll kill it is if businesses take another pass...

For me yes. I run XP MCE & W7 beta on my laptop and Windows 7 is noticeably snappier.

I also have the RC on my desktop (64 bit) and have been very pleased.

Keep in mind that $50 may be for an upgrade CD that may require your original XP install to be complete first. I know there was a great little workaround for Vista for that, but I doubt M$ didn't fix that.

My XP crashed a few times a month, Vista would fuck up right after it installing on my system with an IDE HD no matter what I did. I tried everything to fix it. When I ran a SATA HD with the latest drivers Vista BSOD'ed about once every 3-4 days due to my on board network. Which I could never resolve. And it did not like my Razer keyboard drivers, which caused it to BSOD every time I booted until I removed them. The Network had the latest drivers, and it's a good MSI board. The RC beta of Windows 7 installed on the same IDE drives Vista refused to. And has worked pretty much flawlessly. I don't love Windows 7, but me recommending a Microsoft OS would be like a Jewish person recommending a type of ham. I like it enough to be happy with it, and I think with Windows 7 on my system, I'm finally starting to realize no matter how much I hope and dream. DOS isn't ever coming back.

There has been upgrade install work arounds for every Microsoft OS and program I can think of. It wouldn't be very Microsofty of them to actually finally fix it in Windows 7.

I'll probably end up getting it through my company's tech.net subscription, but if for some reason that doesn't work, I may consider buying an upgrade (using vista ultimate from technet right now)

Is Windows 7 really faster than Windows Vista, under any circumstance? I've got a P4 HT 3.0GHz, 2GB DDR RAM, and a Radeon X1950GT. Would it still be faster than Vista? I mean, if W7 just uses multiple cores better, then it won't really affect my system very much.

I played with 7 in a VM and have to say it's WAY better then vista. It has a similar look, if, the same, but WAY less resource usage. It's much snappier then Vista is. I could see myself upgrade to it, if I don't switch to Linux by then. I wont jump on it when it comes out though, I like to give any MS OS about a year before upgrading, that way a few SP's are out fixing the major issues, and hardware is more designed for it (has drivers, etc). Probably when I decide to upgrade my current PC, I'll go for it.

My GF needs a Laptop and I have to say I am really happy to hear about this. Was worried I'd have to wait until August-ish to get a laptop with the free upgrade. Hopefully, all the sweet laptop deals stick around as well. Hopefully they don't use the Win 7 upgrade as an excuse to up prices again.

With that said, have they announced a name yet. I am sick of saying Win 7.
