The killer deals? about 4 years ago my GF and I went and she ended up saving close to $800 on 4 items over even the cheapest price online. Unlike 99% of ATOT she's not a millionaire so her 10 hours in line was worth it to save $800.

The only thing that bothers me is when people buy stuff just because it's cheap. I was talking to an engaged couple and they are getting ready to move into a place of their own. They had a game plan of what they needed. They're not buying stuff because it's cheap.

Now I refuse to go out unless it's saving me at least 60 - 70%... Guess who probably isn't going

She actually needed 1 of the items which she bought, a fridge, but thanks for giving your .02. And while she didn't "need" a television she wanted one and didn't have a working one. Heaven forbid she actually buy things she wants and is able to save a shit ton of money in the process. Why do you have a computer? you don't need it right? I'll assume you've bought things in the past you didn't absolutely need, and since you're apparently against saving a ton of money have fun spending more $$$ on the same shit. I am not quite sure you understand how this works. Did you see the line for Fry's or MicroCenter? Those had more expensive TVs. Best Buy had the top 2 tv deals (refer to SD for details) so people are lining up there and NOT other places. Most likely Best Buy is taking a margin loss in the hopes that people will buy more than just the TV when they get inside - which has, historically, been the case

Who said anything about impulse buy? (although you might be suprised at how often that happens too. I know I was) I just said they buy other things while they are there - which is correct. These typically make up for any margin loss for the day. Trust me - stores that generate the best ads will have a huge positive margin from this

I understand that sentiment but think of this, someone who is unemployed could get an early spot in line and then SELL that spot for $100-200 just for waiting, I wonder if this happens..

I love going to Best Buy before Thankgiving and Black Friday.

Went to the Palisades mall one yesterday. Took me 5 minutes to park, enter the store, pick up the item I needed (a compact all-in-one printer), pay for it, and exit.

Compare that to the madness of Black Friday shopping, and I'm glad I don't have cash to burn and time to waste shopping for hours at B&M stores that day. It's fun (well, maybe not fun) if you treat it like an experience and camp out with some friends, but it doesn't make much sense in terms of opportunity cost for me.

Because for some people that's the only way they can get a notebook for their kid at all. Not everyone there is like that, but there are quite a few that use this as an opportunity to make their money go a bit farther for gifts and things.

Don't need it, get rid of it. Have a bed? Don't need it, toss it. Have an mp3 player? Don't need it, give it to charity.

Nobody needs anything. I own all kinds of shit I don't need and I'll continue buying shit I don't need. You know why? Because life is short and none of it matters. Meijer was supposedly going to have the Kinect and 3 game bundle for $100 starting at 6 AM today and my wife was considering going. Amazon had the same bundle for $125 and I told my wife she would be nuts to get up and go over there and stand in line for $25. She disagreed with me, but I noticed it is 10 AM and she is still in bed.
