Just got back from Best Buy in Cerritos and they are now offering a rewards card! Here are the details:
  • Cost: $9.99 (one year membership)
  • 5000 bonus points for joining
  • 500 points per purchase plus 100 points per $1 spent on movies, music, video games and software (edited to add music in place of videos...knew I misremembered part of it!)
  • 10% off coupon as bonus for joining (mailed to you with your welcome pack)
  • Each 12,500 points gets you a $5 coupon (some restrictions apply). From what I was told in the store, these ARE stackable, and are also stackable with other offers such as preferred customer discounts.
They ask for your name, phone number and address at the register when you buy it...so it MIGHT just get you onto their preferred customer mailing list. I learned why I wasn't getting any of their mailers - they had me in their system, but with an old street address and the city and state were a place I have never lived (Ohio!).
They let me buy the card on its own, then my DVD as a separate transaction. I then handed the card to my boyfriend who bought another DVD. So in theory we got points as follows:
5000 bonus for buying card
500 base for my purchase
1499 for my $14.99 DVD
500 base for my boyfriend's purchase
1499 for his $14.99 DVD
____________________
8998 points...only 3502 shy of our first $5 coupon. Not bad!
As mentioned in the thread title, this promotion is currently available ONLY in CA and AZ. See here for more details: Best Buy Rewards Card
Enjoy!

good deal if you buy from BB regularly... out of curiosity, can it be combined with employee discounts?

Hehe, I probably just passed by you at the Cerritos BB

Anyway, I didn't notice the rewards card offer, but here's a little math I figured. You basically need 20K points to get 2 $5 coupons which will cancel out the price of the membership card. You can either do that with 40 purchases, or $200 spent on specific aforementioned mechandise, or a combination thereof. This would have been good back when I was in my DVD buying frenzy, but I don't buy too much software or DVDs anymore.

Bump for a hot deal if you buy movies, videos, video games or software.

Why get the rewards card? My friend has an employee discount there. If I want something, I'll just holler at him. I get EVERYTHING at cost.

Uh....it's not like everyone has a direct link to the inside.. and isn't it against some kind of policy for someone else to be using his employee discount? Some of us do like to get our deals legitimately, you know.

Zclyh3,
I think you should have posted that in brag and moan, not under this hot deal post. You and your friend has a cool setup, but unless you plan to tell us his name and which store he works at, it doesn't help the rest of us out.

Does Best buy price match on dvd? I hope this deal comes to other states, I already feel like there is a way to get a even hotter deal form this.
Preferred customers often get $5 coupons and 10% discounts too.

BestBuy sometimes price matches DVDs. It depends largely on the following eminantly controllable factors: the mood of the employee at the register, the whim of their manager, and the alignment of the stars on that particular day. Usually your best bet is to buy the DVD at their price, pay for it with your coupons or whatever, then head over to the CS booth and ask for the pricematch there. It takes longer than it would if they would just honor their policy, but in reality it's a lot faster than trying to convince the cashier or manager to do it.

Geez. Guess I have competition when it comes to deals at Best Buys now. Just in this thread, there are 2 other Cerritos Best Buys-goers. Just like when I'm at the Staples here, and I see other people standing around asking "Are you from F@twallet or An@ndtech?" Hehe...

Well I live right next to the BB in Cerritos so I stop by way too often

The good thing about the Cerritos store is that it's so well stocked and you can usually get the nice specials if you come at opening time. The problem is there will be 5 billion other people coming to Cerritos as well

Exactly! I live maybe 4-5 miles from the Cerritos store. The one nice thing about it is that even if you spot it from the freeway, you may never find it. We call that whole shopping center the "Cerritos Triangle" for a reason! Unless you know exactly how to get there (i.e. have someone in the car with you who knows the area) we can be fairly certain that you won't find the store in time to take advantage of "our" deals

Those who have already been on the preferred customer mailing list, keep a lookout for a green envelope from Best Buy that has a coupon in it so you don't even have to pay the initial $9.99 membership fee.
