Oh, I'm in. This guy is obviously trying to scam the store to get a new working card for one he bought that was dead. The best part is as a current BB employee my lines of communications down to the stores in Florida are greatly improved.

This is absolutely priceless. I had to deal with fvcktards like this on a daily basis until I changed jobs. Here's the lowdown:

Your receipt is YOUR PROOF OF PURCHASE. You lost it. You screwed up. Take responsibility for your actions, grow up and stop blaming ATI for shipping a duff card. BestBuy are not breaking any laws in refusing a return on this card, and you are stuck. RMA the damn card to ATI and suck it down.

That is all.

Okay, I didn't bother to read all bajillion posts here, but let me clear up all mis-conceptions once and for all.

**NO** retailer has to accept a return/exchange without a receipt under any circumstances. I don't blame those managers for not wanting to accept any kind of transaction with a ~$250 computer related item. Retail stores are the target of loser motherfvcker scammers who try to return sh!t that isn't what they bought (i.e. put diff video card, HDD back in original box). So, as far as paying CASH for a ~$250 video card AND losing your receipt, sh!t on you.
Now what happened to you (other than your stupidity) is you got the wrong person on the wrong shift. If you go back on a diff day during a different time (i.e. early afternoon vs evening), you will probably encounter a different customer service associate/manager. You can almost always get what you want at a retail store, you just have to find the right person. Go back on a diff day/time and find a couple diff managers. Explain the situation CALMLY. Now, they cannot easily find your receipt as iif you had paid with a credit card. However, as a disclaimer, if you pay with ANYTHING other than cash Best Buy CAN look up your receipt if it was within the last year. Circuit City does the same thing. Now, if it was a recent purchase, they MIGHT be able to find your sale. They can do a search by SKU to find recent sales of a product. It is a pain in the @$$, so you need to be NICE and they will probly help you; again if you find the right person. Just getting another 9800P would be the easiest thing for them to do, so just to let you know you need to play your cards right if you want to totally exchange it. However, you can do it. But remember: BE NICE. They DO NOT have to help your dumb @$$.
It pisses me off how people try to bend the rules and when a store won't let them, suddenly they're being screwed over. I see people like you every damn day and it sickens me. Just because retail associates are in the position to HELP YOU because their company wants your money, suddenly you have the right to treat them like sh!t (in person or ::AHEM:: otherwise) to get your way. Well, maybe take a step back yourself and realize that you are in this situation because of your own mistake. Now stop bitching and go back & talk to the right person.

I'd surprised if they gave you replacement without receipt. Best Buy will find every excuse to screw you. You should have known that by now.

omG the OP is a fvcking moron. everyone of his posts is just making him sound stupider and stupider. how old are you btw? i don't know bout you (well now I do and you are a moron), but any piece of (ESPECIALLY) retail computer equipment, hell, any purchase of over $100 or so, i keep the receipt. whether it is clothes, a video game, a console, or a friggin computer part ... KEEP THE RECEIPT! yes, sh!t happens, and when it does, your receipt is the only thing that shows your proof of purchase. without it, you are just some loser who could have obtained the card anyway.

as much as i HATE best buy, i love them in this situation for not letting you get away with this crap. i hope you don't get your card back and lose the $250. i wouldn't have hoped that if you hadn't kept posting making yourself seem more and more stupid, but now I really hope they don't help you out.

I'm too lazy to read the entire thread to see if this was posted so...

This will sound a little criminal, but desperate times call for desperate measures. Just buy a NEW 9800 pro from Best Buy and then refund the old one with the receipt from the new one. Or if you think that'll give you problems, which it shouldn't, refund the old one, inside the box of the new one. If they ask for a reason, say their sh1t doesn't work and you're tired of their poor Customer Service, you just want your money back.

Like I said the card was preforming pretty good for Doom 3 until it died. Makes me wonder what the X800 would do. You guys can't really blame me for not being fond of ATI after the first card I purchased for my brother went out in a short time, can you ?

The only bad thing that I could really notice about the card was the bad stock cooling, other then that all seemed well

Sounds to me like your buying a dead card to put in the box of the one you bought from BB to return it and get your money back....

Just my first impression.....

How about instead of whining about it, you find the receipt. Best buy did not screw you over, your moronic self screwed you over.

I think thats what everybodys thinking...I provided pictures and HEAT..not much more can I do ?

If I was trying to scam somebody, I would just try to RMA the card back to ATI..bingo: working card, no problem. But I don't want that, I paid for a brand new card and I really would like a new one in return or my money to purchase a the low end 6800.

Thats what I planning on doing sometime thus week, I gotta drive down to mothers house where my brothers at and see if I can find it. In the beginning I did not think it would be a problem for BestBuy to just to exchange it out for another.

This is coming from a guy who hates Best Buy and would never shop there. That said, I figure most large chains wouldn't mind an exchange without a receipt. I hate Best Buy.

Yeah, I agree it certainly isn't their fault that he lost his receipt. BUT...... what is the cost to them to rectify the situation? By going to the shelf, opening a box, removing only the card, handing it to him, then putting his in that box, and DOA'ng it back to the manufacturer. I think a store like Best Buy should accomidate him in this circumstance, and not assume he's lying.

Also, btw, did you pay cash, credit card, or check? When I used to work at CompUSA a few years ago, we could easily look up any CC purchase made within the last year I believe, and with a little more effort look up check purchases, but not by cash. Which also might teach you a lesson, always make big purchases at stores like BB, CC, etc. on your credit card, since it leaves you more options in case things go sour.

Didn't read but the first few posts on this thread, hope things work out for ya if they haven't already.

I paid with cash.. I see now that was not the best thing to do

I'm thinking now I just might pass my 6800 GT down to him and I'll go for the 6800 U. Then I just RMA the card to ATI and have that one as a back up.
