Also, since Best Buy is an authorized service center for their manufacturers, ask them to send it out for warranty service for you. If my hunch is correct, since video cards do not go to the service cetner and are DEVO...you might get a new one.

Just an idea.

Just drive to California and I'll take care of you.

I'm on my way...

I gonna try and take it to Best Buy one more time and see if I get somebody different to wait on me. If that fails, then I going to RMA it back to ATI.

Thanks for your help

How do people sell cards and motherboards that need to be RMA'ed ????????????????????
When you make millions of some item, it becomes cost-prohibitive to guarantee 0 defect rates.

So you guys are saying I should just eat the money ?

You should have kept the receipt (or at least scanned a copy of it). Now, you can try RMAing if they'll do it, otherwise yes. Eat the cost. Or go and ask nicely.

I'm an idiot because I didnt keep one receipt ? Who really expects a brand new card to die ? Come on, seriously ? No overclocking, modding, nothing ?

As I said above, when you make stuff in high volumes, you can't guarantee that every part works if you want to keep prices competititve. Look at LCD monitors - many makers don't accept returns for less than 8 dead pixels.

.....I could always say the customer service girl started saying racist remarks...then I could own some of Best Buy

Your receipt is YOUR PROOF OF PURCHASE. You lost it. You screwed up. Take responsibility for your actions, grow up and stop blaming ATI for shipping a duff card. BestBuy are not breaking any laws in refusing a return on this card, and you are stuck. RMA the damn card to ATI and suck it down.

That is all.

This is assuming his story is true, with the card he legitimately bought from BB going bad in less than a week. If he were to buy another brand new, working card, then put his original defective one in that box, and return it to BB as defective, how in the heck would that be any different for BB or ATI if he hadn't lost the receipt and not needed to resort to such trickery? They still have to DOA it back to ATI, and it's still the same dead card, so I don't see how this in any way effects the bottom line.

It was a bad card, it's not his fault that it was bad (at least from anything I gather), and it was within the 30 day return policy from BB. His only fault was misplacing/losing the receipt. Which also does not make him a moron. Hopefully he'll learn to keep better track of cash register receipts, especially on expensive hardware purchases, in the future. I don't think he needs to eat $264 or whatever in order to learn this lesson, you guys are just being way too harsh on him for something you've all done many times I'm sure in your past at some point (misplacing things).

I personally never assumed that. What I did assume is that you're a tool because you LOST your receipt and had the nerve to come kicking and screaming onto this forum, ranting about how you've been "screwed over by BestBuy", and how ATI makes shoddy goods.

When you've grown up and start acting your age, then people may take you seriously.

Some of you people act like you never lost a receipt or something of that nature. You guys act like I should be killed because my brother misplaced it and I was expecting Best Buy to help me out...I mean they had no prolblem taking money in the first place.

Also the reason I got the card retail from BestBuy and pais a premium price was because I was trying to avoid a big hassle on a return if I/he had problems with the card, like I said I never uesd ATI stuff before.

Dear GOD you are stupid.

BEST BUY IS A BUSINESS. THEY ARE NOT GOING TO THINK TWICE ABOUT TAKING YOUR MONEY IN EXCHANGE FOR GOODS.

BEST BUY HAS NO WAY OF KNOWING IF YOU BOUGHT THE PRODUCT FROM THEM. IT IS YOUR FAULT THAT THE PRODUCT MAY NOT BE ELIGIBLE FOR RETURN/REFUND.

YOU ARE A STUPID TOOL. DIE IN A FIRE.

Maybe it'd be enough if you were denied breeding rights.

Ah, yes. Classic "I'm a fvcking moron who deserves to have his ass licked by <insert name of company here> behaviour".

1. You lost your receipt. If your brother is a bona fide retard, don't put important stuff anywhere within ten miles of him. My partner's sister is mentally handicapped. I wouldn't give her my 9600 Pro for safe-keeping.

2. "they had no prolblem taking money in the first place." Please, seriously, that's the oldest and most laughed-at line in the book. If you even think about saying that in the store, then you will be branded as a douche by the staff and customers of the store, and will always be known as "that douche who whined pathetically and no-one cared".
Besides, you're the kind of person who would throw his toys out of his pram if they took your money any slower, you cretin.

While there's no NewEgg in the UK, I have heard that their returns procedure is rather favourable. Which proves that not only are you a douche, but a gigantic tool as well.

Now please, don't stop posting. You're an excellent sounding board for new insults.

Awww, please come back, this was turning into something highly entertaining.

Anyway, your overuse of the word "lol" leads me to believe that you are, indeed, a 12-year-old boy who is up well past his bedtime.

Uhm, the box has a barcode right? Usually there is a sitcker along with it on the plastic wrapper too. I was thinking that certain units are marked and recorded into the regional dbs. If you have that barcode on the plastic wrap (which I guess you do not) then that will be as good as a receipt.

If not then call the Bestbuy consumer services number or call again to the same store at a time when you will get another shift manager.

There are some stupid points being made throughout this thread that I must comment on. First of all, why should Best Buy accept your card when you lost the receipt? Someone had said what is the difference .. they'll get full credit on it when they send it back to ATI. That is extra work that BB doesn't have to do, unless the consumer can prove he/she bought the product at BB.

Why are you talking down on BB for not doing you this favor? They shouldn't be obligated to help you what-so-ever without a receipt. They give you a receipt for a reason .. not as a decoration. You said that you're going to go back and speak to someone else that's working there. What's going to happen when you get the same manager? You might as well RMA it to ATI. It is not ATI's fault that their card died on you because you bought a fully functional product. Obviously something happened within the 4 days that caused it to die so stop blaming BB or ATI. It was your own stupid self that lost the receipt. Why do people like you always expect the world to bail them out for such carelessness? You are entitled to NOTHING and the world does not owe you anything.

Alot of you people are missing the point.
Assuming that the whole story is legit.

Best Buy is a brick&motar place of business. How they thrive on their business is by convience and customer service.
Lets face it...alot of BB customers are the uninformed, somewhat moronic people.
If BB keep refusing to provide a simple service as in exchanging a card, they will continue to lose business.
Its not like BB will lose anything. They send hundreds of defective items back to manufacturers for credits all the time so whats 1 more card.

Sure he lost his receipt but BB do not lose anything by just exchanging the card for him.
If this is the type of service BB provide....why doesn't everyone just buy online ??

You sir, are an idiot.

1. You made a purchase at Best Buy.
2. You lose your receipt.
3. You paid $265 for a Radeon 9800 FVCKING pro!

You should change the thread title to "I screwed myself over because I'm an incompetant moron."

I'm sorry that you lost your receipt, but I think that happens sometimes, but there is usually a back up way to get it - for example, I lost a receipt for something I bought at circuit city, and needed it for a rebate, so I went to the store and they re-printed the receipt based on the credit card number and date of transaction. So I owuld say the most important lesson here is to use a credit card - some of the platinum ones even allow you to return the item when the store refuses.
