Thing is it COULD be a decent store, if they were more like NCIX, Tigerdirect etc and carried actual components too and at half decent prices. None of this BS where you have to pay almost $50 for a freaking cable. It's ridiculous how marked up some stuff is. I've been in situations where I'm stuck and need something NOW, and HATE buying a cable from a store like that.

Would be cool to be able to actually buy stuff like motherboards, ram, hard drives etc locally. On the other hand shopping for stuff like that is easier online as you can check reviews and stuff first.

Yup, and I REFUSE to trust ANY shipping co to send me a "55 LCD and even if it arrives just fine but croaks 2 weeks later you now have to hope the warranty covers at-home service or you will wind up shipping it back on your dime. Same thing if your unlucky and get a screen with a dead/stuck pixel(s), if you bought it local just load it up and exchange it, done in an hour. Bought it from Amazon, not so much.

Amazon is like a show room for Best Buy now. I browse Amazon at home, find something I like with researched reviews then if I see Best Buy selling the same thing I'll price match and buy at Best Buy. No way in hell I would buy a twilight princess limited edition from online that would arrive all mangled up in the mail when I can hand pick one at retail.

Interesting because all the stores in that area show the new Roku 4K model in stock. It is surprising someone as obviously technically sophisticated as yourself didn't order it online for store pickup. Your problem would have been solved.

Of course this assumes the story you presented is accurate and you aren't just some wack-a-doodle with a axe to grind with Best Buy…but what are the odds of that?

FWIW most employees are morons, ive had them tell me they didn't carry it or it wasn't in stock, ordered it from my phone while in the store and picked it up

I get a lot of good deals from Best Buy online. Plus, their Gamers Club Unlocked is an awesome deal. I don't go to their stores as frequently as I used to, but their online sales are great.

Yeah...It's called the PFD - Permanent Fund Dividend. Residents who've lived here at least a full year get to apply. I got like $2000.00 + last year. Not sure how much longer it's going to last though. Because of the crash in oil prices and the fall-off in oil production in Alaska, there is talk of raiding the fund to cover the state budget.

To add: if you have a family with lots of kids, each kid can get a check. Some families really make out like bandits. Best Buy will have all kinds of TV's and big ticket items ready for the weekend after PFD's are sent out.

FWIW, I've bought 3 plasma TVs online (1 from Newegg, 2 from Amazon) and all were fine for years. Amazon in particular throws in free "white glove" delivery on many of their TVs.

I once worked for Best Buy shortly after turning 18. That was 20 years ago. I admired them as a business back then. They sold my favorite PC games and had the latest and greatest in video cards for sale.

The tactics of the Best Buy today are repugnant. They no longer sell any of the highest quality computer electronics in their stores. It's all way overpriced mid to low end garbage. Not only that, but they push hard to upsell their protection plans on just about everything. I cannot go into the store knowing that one of the blue shirts will immediately try to latch on to me asking "Is there something I can assist you with". Avoiding eye contact does not help.

I went there in the last year for the first time in over ten years, and couldn't believe how lame it was. Cell phones and crap was all they had. I discovered a Microcenter ~20 miles from me, and that's like a wonderland. Easily worth the drive compared to the BB less than three miles from my house.

Lucky bastage, nearest MC is a 10 hour round trip here. I haven't been to BB in ages but they saved my coworkers behind today because a clients UPS was going bonkers and the BB had a great APC 1300VA on clearance.
