I have $5,000 to spend on a car and I'd like to hear everyone's opinions and recommendations. Being 21 and having 2 years of college left has diminshed my "dream-car" funds, but the 1993-95 Toyota MR2's looked appealing. The car must have these features in order of priority

A) reliable
B) fun to drive
c) looks kewl!
d) comfortable road head ergonomics (j/k)

Fire Away!

A cheap reliable car that can be had with low miles would be a Chevy Cavalier. Chevy's are tough as nails and since it's American, parts can easily be had and cheap for any repairs. The most important thing to look at is miles. Who really cares if the car looks cool and it has 120k miles on it?

hahah cavalier...eeehehehehe good one
It fails all 3 requirements

anyway honda is the most reliable thing you can get, but it doesnt look cool and is definatelly not fun to drive.

I was gonna suggest mr2, but then i read the rest of your post and you found that out already. You can also try getting a first generation turbo talon/eclipse/laser with AWD (fun to drive) or something more recent with salvage title

grand ams are nice. you can get a 99 SE with decent miles for a little over 5

another fun car is a ford taurus sho...they take alot of work though, dont get one unless you can do the work or have a friend that can...also 96-99 have a problem with the cams, so stay away from them

The MR2s are only fun if you have the turbo which means $$ since they were expensive to begin with and to my knowledge there aren't too many around these days.

some people are just so brainwashed with hondas. I will never buy one of those in my lifetime. There are just so many other good cars out there.
Im thinking of getting a new car too like a Lexus or maybe an Audi. In a few months Ill make up my mind.

audi, volvo, bmw, saab.

I have a 1984 volvo dl wagon with 215,000 miles on it. The car runs excellent, and it does not smoke or burn oil!

My 1995 240sx was about that price. RWD, and more HP than a similarly priced Honda, even if it is underpowered.

thanks everyone! I'm taking ALL your suggestions into consideration. So I guess a 93 nonturbo MR2 isn't worth it? Keep it coming!
