Best card/software to backup VHS to DVD

Hey all,

Just wanted to know what you have used to backup VHS tapes that contain home movies and such to DVD or VCD, I want to know the best capture card and the best software to encode. I was thinking about just purchasing the Leadtek TV Tuner card from Newegg.com but am unsure about the capturing and encoding process, compression and all that. Any help would be great.

If you're willing to settle for less than the best, perhaps one of these will suit your fancy:

ADS Xpress or it's daddy the ADS Instant DVD 2.0: Outputs MPEG 2, comes with Uled Video Studio for DVD authoring (buy it at Circuit City)
Or one of these devices that outputs DV format: Canopus ADVC-100 (~$249) or Data Video DAC-100 (~$189). With these you need to add your own software for editing. I like Pinnacle Studio 8.

MPEG2 is the format stored on DVD's. DV format is the format used by digital camcorders, and is better for editing, if you plan to do that sort of thing with your videos before putting them on DVD.
