Eh, I don't think so. He had a nice rookie season, slumped last year when he was confirmed playing injured and the Cowboys had college Division level II talent at the other CB and FS positions, and he rebounded nicely this year to have a quietly effective season. He blanketed Steve Smith of the Panthers and held him to 1 catch for 18 yards through 3 quarters before Smith was ejected. Seeing as Smith is the most dangerous receiver in the league right now, I'd say that means Newman is holding his own

As for Champ Bailey, he is a bit overrated. He gets beat for long gains too much to be a 'shutdown' corner, but I wouldn't mind having him on my team. He has the talent to be the best if he can cut down on giving up big plays.

My vote goes for Ronde Barber.

And nobody that plays in the Cowboys secondary gets beat for long gains? (a.k.a. Santana Moss)

Champ - who saw the (almost) touchdown pass he defended against Randy Moss Sat.? Moss goes up, starts to grab it, Champ thwacks it right out of his hands. Awesome play.

Not only is champ an excellent in pass coverage - he's an excellent run defender, tackler, blitzer, and even can play offense. AND he's been playing hurt all year.

Talk about a guy living on his reputation. Used to be an elite corner ,now he is forced to take quite a few interference calls to keep up. He's still good but nowhere near the best.

I'd take Bailey.

Not saying that I agree or disagree with you about Barber being good or bad, but you can't judge a CB on tackles. I would prefer to have a CB that never lets the Receiver catch a pass, therefore he gets 0 tackles, rather than a CB that has 150 tackles because he let that many passes get completed (yes I know CB's tackle other people they weren't defending and this is an extreme example, but it does have to be taken into account).

I have to admit, that not following many CB stats, I'm surprised to see Ronde Barber's stats look as good as they do.

I don't think much of Ronde Barber as a player, but his stats prove me wrong. Apparently he is.

I think that Champ Bailey......(CB, get it? LOL).....is definitely a great one & I'd think will be better in the long term.

One of the things that surprises me about Barber's stats is his height. I think this league is going to taller WR's which has always left me wanting for taller CB's. I figured a guy like Barber's days would be numbered in such an ever-stretching league.

Again, I'd have normally said Bailey, but Barber's #'s prove very strong!
