Best CD-RW to get (besides Lite-On)

I'm sending my new 24X Lite-On back. I haven't been able to get it to work right. Whats the best IDE drive out there that will read/write just about anything. I'm thinking about getting the Plextor 24X instead. Reviews look good as long as they've fixed the deficiencies that were identified early on. I know it's more expensive but I hoping it will be less troublesome than the Lite-On. Is there anything better out there other than the Plextor?

I can't believe this isn't more widely known. The Yamaha CRW3200 is easily the best, and always wins in benchmarks (real and synthetic). If you don't believe me, take it from Thomas Pabst's site, the famous Tom's Hardware Guide.

Thanks I'll look into the Yamaha. My Lite-On is going back to Newegg and they sell the Plextor so it will probably be easy to exchange and pay the difference.

Looks like the Yamaha is fairly expensive. I think I'm gonna give the Plextor a try.

I've been using the TDK 8/4/32 version and have not had any problems. No coasters!

Ricoh, Teac, Plextor are my favs.. Yamaha isn't known to be the very best, but they do have a pretty good name! I've heard a few complaints about the Yamaha's, and of course the el-cheapo Lite-On's, but rarely do i hear complaints about Ricoh, Teac and Plextor... They're all pretty good.

I have a Sanyo bp4 that works very well, but I don't know if they make them anymore. I believe they invented the burn proof technology. From what I've read Yamahas are noisy, true?

Not true. I have a CRW3200, and it's no noisier than any other CDRWs.

I replaced my TDK 12x with the 24x liteon and am sorry I did, Liteon made 3 coasters so far, I got sucked by the Hype of liteon.
Liteon did not impress me one bit, now I sold my TDK and regreat it.
I never had one coaster with the TDK brand.

I'm sorry that had to happen to you

I try and stay away from bunk brands like that to avoid problems all together and it's worked for the most part.. I'm happy happy happy with my Ricoh MP7120A, it works perfect, always has! and I'd sure as hell recommend Ricoh again... they have a great band for buck going for them, and I am surprised of how little people own these drives...

Guys, you all read the reviews right, at cdrinfo such as how the LiteOn 24x is pretty much the same as the Plextor 24x. I've owned several burners:

(*currently still have)
Philips 8x
HP 9900i 12x
*SAF SCSI 12x
TDK 12x with BP
Plextor 12x
*Plextor 16x
*Plextor 24x
*LiteOn 24x

I do regret upgrading all my 12x to 24x, including the PLEXTOR 24X!

Reason is that the new 24x burners including LiteOn and Plextor are very picky on media. You may burn the cd fine, but when you use it, you have problems, files can't be read etc. I've had this problem on the Liteon 24x and Plextor 24x. When I had the 12x TDK and Plextor, I never had a single problem on media.

I don't know why you guys have so much problem with your CDRW's. I have 5 computers and I have 7 CDRW's. I never had a problem with any brand I used. I have Plextor 24x,2- liteon 24x, 2- QPs 24x, Teac 16x, Iomega 12x. All these burn any media I throw at it. I try many brand of cdr and all of them worked fine. even 12x media works fine on 24x writers.

i've used 4 lite-ons cd-rw's in my time and all worked flawlessly. there isn't any hype about lite-on. there are simply people raving about their experiences with them. they are a great company right now. no, i don't work for them.

Yamaha and NEC are probably the 2 best that I have ever had to work with. I personally have one of each, a 16x Yamaha and a 24x NEC, both work perfect and are quiet.

I still question their quality control. People who get a good drive are happy with them. People who don't aren't. The more I look around the more I find people with complaints about the drives. There are a lot more people out there complaining about these drives then I originally thought. And the problems they are having are all similar.
