Would like information on the best and fastest cdrw external that could be used on a laptop. It has firewire , usb and serial ports on it. What could be gotton for say $275.00 or less, Gary
I don't know if they are the BEST, but Freecom do portable and traveller drives that can connect by Parallel, USB, firewire and PCMCIA. You buy the drive and the connector separately. Bit more expensive than other drives but more flexible. Note that my parallel drive still is incompatible with Windows2000.
Firewire would allow you to use the fastest drives. It appears that with USB, you are limited to 4x write/rewrite.
WetWilly had mentioned, in another thread, an enclosure/conversion that makes an internal ATAPI burner into an external USB burner. I believe he paid ~$80 for it. He took an old HP 4x internal burner and turned it into a functional external USB burner.
