I think there was a thread similar to this a little while ago...but I couldn't find it. Sorry if it's a repost!

I'm starting a consulting job in a few weeks and I need to choose a carrier for my business cell. I'm going to be along the East coast and also doing some work in Indiana/Ohio/Illinois (Chicago).

I was thinking either VZW or Sprint. I have a VZW personal cell and it works great here in the DC area.

Anybody have other suggestions? Stories? I'm willing to go with another carrier besides those two if the argument is good enough.

Thanks everybody!

EDIT: If you have any recommendations on phones as well...I'm all ears! It doesn't have to be PDA/Smartphone...but it'd be nice I have my eye on the Treo 700w

I would go with VZW, I have friends with Sprint and it just doesn't seem to work as good as VZW.

VZW definitely...I have the Treo 700w and love it just as much as I hate it. It should have been built w another 32MB of RAM. If you don't mind having to soft reset it frequently then go for it. I would look at the Q...if it does everything you need go for that and save a couple hundred bucks. If you'll actually use some of the features the 700w offers over the Q then consider the Treo.

Just don't get Cingular. It is about 2 or 3 times worse than Verizon in Charlotte, absolutely horrible service that lowers the bars... How can you raise the bars if you have no bars at all? Hmmm...

VZW

I also thinks in certain area's it depends on what cell phone you have.

I had Tmobile in the Philly Suburbs and it sucked in my house. Had to go outside for service. Verizon though gives me full bars.

However there are certain vally's or roads that my father and borthers phones drop out on with Verizon yet my Motorola gives me 2-3 bars.

From the looks of things...it's VZW FTW!

I think I could get away with having the Q...but I just haven't heard enough things about it word-of-mouth-wise. Anybody here have one? Any complaints? Gripes? Same for the Treo 700w.

vzw, i've had pretty much no trouble with coverage except when I was out in the ocean or underground in NYC subways.

I travel for a living and agree that Verizon is currently the better choice.

I am kinda partial to the treo 700p myself.

Wow, I can't believe people actually suggest Verizon. CDMA FTL, crippling the software on every single phone you sell FTfvckingL!

I have Cingular in Florida and I'm very happy with it. I've used it in Chicago, New York City, and parts of Tennessee, always had 4-5 bars. Cingular just released the 8525, it seems nice, go for it.

I've had Sprint PCS, Cingular, Nextel and Verizon and hands down Verizon has had the best coverage.

Verizon.

Especially if you know other people with Verizon Wireless.

Verizon may lock their phones...but for business i'd be more worried about coverage. For the east coast, Verizon has the best coverage.

I just about crapped my pants when I heard it was out; the 8125 is only what, half a year old?

In my area of New Jersey, Cingular sucks.

Could you elaborate a bit on why you prefer the 700p?

I'm not seeing the 8525 yet on Cingular's site.
