once my contract with t-mobile ends this may, my family is probably going to get a family talk plan. Keep in mind i'm in the chicagoland area. How do these standup against each other?

-Cingular
-T-mobile
-Verizon Wireless

sprints would be great if they didn't charge $20 for each additional line

Coverage-wise: Verizon > Cingular > T-Mobile

Prices for minutes and features: T-Mobile > Cingular > Verizon

Pretty sure thats an accurate comparision.

verizons prices came down recently tho. i'm sure they are still the most expensive, but there is a reason for it. coverage.

i have t-mobile right now. the only reason i'm not going to automatically resign up with them is because right now i'm in a situation where my phone got messed up and it's taking them two weeks to get me a new phone. pretty bad customer service.

If you're IN Chigago, you'll probably want Verizon, not SprintPCS. (Better network.) Not sure about the rest of "Chicagoland" though.

Let me add: If T-Mobile works well in the areas your family needs it, keep it (if their family plans are to your liking). And within areas that Tmobile has service, the quality of service is generally better than Sprint. So, don't switch to Sprint unless you're a glutton for punishment. If you're going to switch with the goal of better service/more areas covered than T-Mobile can offer, look to Verizon.

EDIT: Oh damn! I misread the original question--for some reason, I thought it was between SPRINT, T-mobile, and Verizon.

Nevermind this non-sense. I don't actually know anything about Cingular.

I'd say T-Mobile. I switched from them to Cingular just because of the Razr, but customer service wise, and price-wise, T-Mobile is unmatched. Coverage isn't the best, but you're in a popular area, so it shouldn't be a problem. If my phone ever broke with T-Mobile, they would send me a new one overnight.

Switched from a T-Mobile family plan to a Cingular Family plan in January. Better reception, better service and just a better plan.

Plus I get a 19% FAN discount

yah previously we just had three 300-minute plans but now the share plan (with free in-calling) will save us about $40/mo. combined. That's unreal.

Yep. Actually the cheapest America's Choice plan has more than 300 minutes now I think. I have no idea how many I use, since most of my calling is IN.

If you add lines to a family plan, do they pay all the same taxes you do on that line? For example, I pay about $5/mo in taxes on my line, if I add two more will they have the same $5 in taxes?
