My 2 year agreement is up with Sprint and if they don't give me a substantial discount on a new phone I'm gone. Which provider offers the best service, area coverage, cheapest plans, and coolest phones? I like Sprint and don't have any problems but my phone needs replacing and I would like one of those new camera phones but don't want to spend $200+ on one. Which one do you recommend?

sprint

call retention and get a nice new plan and they have $100 for the Sanyo 8100, they may even give you a better deal on that or the 5400 (newest model)

sprint's plans can't be beat in terms of minutes for the dollar and I find their service to be quite good

Go with Verizon, T-Mobile, or AT&T. Stay the fvck away from US Cellular, & the rest of them. Choose Verizon, T-Mobile, or AT&T.

Search the forum for "cell phone provider" there is a poll and many comments in that thread. If you are too lazy to search, I'm too lazy to link it though.

What he said.

I have Nextel, and have never had any problems with them. I used to have Verizon, but combined with bad customer service, bad coverage compared to Nextel, and piss poor prices, I switched to Nextel.

Honestly, it depends ENTIRELY on where you live. No matter how much you like a provider or are recommended to one, it won't change not being able to get a reception in your house, so your location makes a huge difference if you're in the sticks.

If I had to make a judgement call, I'd say T-Mobile or Sprint. As far as the retention plans go, that can be hit or miss. If you tell them you want to break your contract, you might not get anything and you might get it commented on your record that you already mentioned it, which will make you look bad if you call back to try and get it. Trust me, I worked a second job at a Sprint call center once

If you've been a customer for over a year, they'll probably give you a retention plan. Sprint does offer a lot with their PCS vision, and their phones are way nice, but their plans are spendy if you ask me.

I'm with T-Mobile, and I love them to death. I've been tempted to get authorized to sell their phones through my friend's shop because I've converted a few people to them by my recommendation.

Top notch customer service, great plans ($39.99 for 600 AT, Unlimited N&W, No roaming, can't beat that), cool phones (the Samsung E715, Motorola V300, and Nokia 3650 all bring plenty to the table, and they're dirt cheap after rebates), stellar sound clarity, and very very rare call dropping. My only complaint is their GPRS internet service is a little lackluster, especially compared to Sprint's. Other than that, you can't lose with T-Mobile.

See, shady06 is an example, it's all about location.

Verizon also gets an honorable mention in my book. I have one VERY significant complaint about them though that would keep me from EVER buying a phone from them.

My friend is on their service, and on the second year of his contract his phone broke. He called them and was instructed to go down to the corporate store about 50 miles away. They wanted him to pay retail cost for a new phone. Now, when I think retail cost, I think "Oh, like $150 or $200 for something decent." Oh no no no, the corporate store expected him to pay $579 for a VX4000!!!!! The cheapest phone they had was $200, and it was a spinach screen POS Kyocera that usually costs -$100 with a contract!!!!!!! Apparently their retail prices for phones are different than just the entry price when you see them in stores. They didn't offer him any help or contract extension deals or anything, just said "Too bad."

If you ask me, that's a load of crap. I asked T-Mobile before I signed up what they do if that happens, and they'll at least offer you some savings if you trade in your old phone and offer to sell you a refurb for less, and the retail cost on their phones is same as entry level, like $150-$200.

Something was wrong there then. Verizon will allow you to extend your contract once you pass the 10 month mark (or is it a year?) which then lets you get the discounted phone. I did this once because I dropped my phone in salt water.
