I actually think Outbacks Filet is pretty damn good for the money. I personally don't care for Longhorn steaks. Taste "off" to me for some reason.

Peter Luger's is an old school steakhouse that has been surpassed by many others. FFS they only accept cash or the peter luger's charge card!

Generally agreed (though I'd be more likely to say "some" instead if "many") however their cheeseburger made me want to throw myself into traffic because there was nothing else to live for. It is that good.

Is it really only $10? That's only couple more bucks than shake shack!

OP, f you're going to put Sizzler on there, might as well put Black Angus.

Wasn't that place on Anthony Bourdain NYC show?

Yes, but they only serve it at lunch. I've had Shake Shake a number of times, this was FAR superior

Morton's is also only served at lunch, so I'm not surprised.

Looks like I'll be dropping by PL for lunch next time I'm in the area.

3 great national chains that I don't see in your list...

The Palm

Del Frisco's

III Forks

plus
Pappa's Brothers Steak House (only Dallas and Houston)

Recently had Texas Roadhouse, it's pretty good, but I still prefer local (small mom n pop) non chain steak places. I try to find them and try them when I'm traveling.

Also, only ever heard of 1 of those places in the list...and I wouldn't consider it great by any stretch of the imagination.

No TEXAS ROADHOUSE? ARE YOU GUYS KIDDING ME?

TR >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Outback >> Longhorn.

The problem with Texas Roadhouse is all of the damn peanut shells on the floor. Just a turnoff.

If you think Outbacks makes the best steak, you've never had real steak.

That's a little harsh. I've been to all the fancy ones (Morton, Club A, Luger's). They're amazing indeed. But calling Outback not a 'real' steak is too just wrong.

Their prime rib is quite tasty. A cut is a cut. Just because it didn't cost you an arm and a leg, doesn't mean the beef is mysteriously worse.

Except Outback does not serve the same class of beef as the others. The level of skill required to be a chef @ Outback is also considerably less.

Best one I've ever been to would be Kirby's.

They're a bit pricey though.

Best common chain? I'd vote Texas Roadhouse or Saltgrass

Where is Ruth's Chris or Capitol Grille? Only other steakhouse chain I've been to is Longhorn. I think of the ones in the poll, only Morton's can be found up here near Boston.

Ruth's Chris is in about 2/3 of US states. Capital Grille about half the US, concentrated in the midwest, west/southwest, and east coast. This post brought to you by LMGTFY

I know it's not The Keg up here, that place is an absolute craphole. I've always wanted to try Ruth's Chris when in the US, but there always seem to be more interesting restaurants to visit wherever I am.

Out of the list Mastro's and Morton's are probably the best and most consistent. Ruth's Chris and Flemming's are decent secondary alternatives.

However none hold a candle to a few independent places I've been in Chicago and NYC.

I miss Tango Sur.

And? I have no idea why pointing out a chain being in "only" 25/35 states is relevant. They're still steakhouse chains. And as I pointed out, most of the ones in the poll aren't up here on the East Coast. Hell, it looks like there's less Morton's then there are of either of the two I named.

I miss Tango Sur.

The few attempts I've made to find a decent steak in the Bay area always have met with failure, usually expensive failure at that.

I just give up and get Chinese or Italian when I'm in SF.
