Best cheap 4 drive NAS?

Any recommendations? I see the Synology 414 is a recent Anand review. Any others that are less than $400? I'd like to go with a 2 bay but I'm just afraid of running out space before I even realize it..

Synology seem to be some of the better ones.

There are other brands that are alright too, and I'm one of a few people around here who built their own. But to paraphrase what they used to say about IBM, nobody ever got fired for buying Synology.

Look at the specs before you buy - if you can get one with ECC RAM, an Intel CPU (not ARM) or both, you'll probably be happier in the long run. (Those are higher end features.)

Don't misunderstand my post here as a complaint. This thread could just as easily have been posted at "Memory and Storage." But these topics overlap, so the thread seems no less relevant for "Networking" than it does for "M&S."

I'm a Synology fan. Great software, good hardware, and their customer support has impressed me as well.
