Best / Cheapest Slot-1 board currently available for purchase?

My kids have a Pentium 200MMX currently. I have a P2-400 salvaged from a computer I recently upgraded. I'd like to add the p2-400 into their system by simply getting a mobo and plugging this bad boy in there. I have all the other parts ready to plug in or re-use.

Does anybody have a recommendation for a slot1 board that isn't too expensive but has a few ISA slots to reuse their old cards?

i have used asus p3b-f several times with great results and i just saw one for sale in the fs/ft forum here...

Gainward motherboard with VIA chipset? Sure if they PAID ME $29 to take it heh.

I'd stick with a BX chipset for Slot 1. With more nVidia AGp cards, 133mhz ram, and a 1/4 PCI divisor (P3B-F, Abit BX6v2 etc) you can do 133mhZ FSB and it's probably undeniably the most stable Slot 1 solution...

You might cruise the For Sale board for awhile, there are some very good deals on used boards in there... I just picked up an ASUS P2B for $25 and it runs great.

I am partial to the BX chipset over VIA, though I doubt I'll be able to OC it much. I don't see any BX boards out there brand new - with everything going 266 FSB with DDR I guess I shouldn't be surprised...

Sorry - I thought I was done but I did think of one more question:

What about the SoyoTek boards? Specifically the SY6BA + III and SY6BA + IV? Anybody had any bad experiences with them?

Abit always made good BX boards - got one on my old machine in kids room. Try bzboyz.com cause they sometimes carry older boards

I'm sure you can get a used Asus 3BF, P3V4X or an Abit BH-6 in the For Sale/Trade Forum for cheap. You will be a lot happier with these boards.

I have a Abit BE6rev1 here if you're interested; $30 plus shipping and its yours PM me if you're interested; this is the BX chipset with onboard Highpoint 366. I had a celeron 366@550 using an Abit slotket running great on it; recently upgraded my parents to a TUSL2-C+1A Ghz Celeron so this is extra now.

Aberdeen is selling a brand new SuperMicro BX MB for about $103 plus
shipping. Has 3 ISAs.......maybe too expensive?

Currently using the ABIT products just because I had an Abit BE6 I moved to a BE6-II, because I didn't want to reinstall. If your running Windows 98 or ME and a SB Live you might want to look at something else. I'm still having a problem with my SB Live and BE6-II working under 98SE.

Good BX boards, but hard to find: SY6BA + IV & BE6-II or v2.0

Also, a good board to look at is the ABIT SH6 (i815 chipset). This is similar to the BX, but newer.

Thanks Subhuman - but I'll steer away from the Rev1 BE6. I had some trouble with that one in the past.

GregMal - The 3 ISA slots sound right but $103 = WAY to expensive!

I think those Soyo boards are the way to go...

Justdeals.com has the Soyo 6BA+III for $40 and the 6BA+IV for $50 - they have 2 ISA slots and the BX chipset.

Ouch - $12 for shipping...Well, maybe...
