I'm mostly a 'classics' kind of guy, but there are a couple more modern that I just have to have.

Animated:
Charlie Brown Christmas
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
Frosty the Snowman
Nightmare Before Christmas
How the Grinch Stole Christmas (animated of course, not the Carey thing)
Muppet Christmas Carol

Classics:
Miracle on 34th St
It's a Wonderful Life
A Christmas Carol
White Christmas

Modern:
The Ref (ok, not really about Christmas, but it takes place over Christmas so it counts)
Christmas Vacation
Elf (if you can stomach that much Will Ferrel at once)
Jack Frost (no idea why I like this one, but I do)
Home Alone (can only handle it during the season, but it seems right to watch it)

Play/Concert/Live:
Nutcracker Ballet
Handel's Messiah
Scrooged
Trans-Siberian Orchestra (if this one isn't in your tradition list, it should be)

How The Grinch Stole Christmas (Jim Carrey adaptation) was pretty funny as well

While I haven't seen Elf I've got to imagine it's as big a piece of crap as all the other movies Will Ferrell has made.

A Christmas Story is a favorite of mine.

It's a Wonderful Life is also a classic.

A Christmas Carol has been done over and over...not sure which one is best as I haven't really reviewed them back to back.

Well if you're really set on being anti-Will Ferrell then you might not like it. He certainly plays the same general character - a loud mouthed idiot. However one thing that separates this movie from some of the others is that it actually has a decent plot/script and there are jokes that are funny whether or not Will Ferrell is in the scene.

Besides Zooey Deschannel's duet with Leon Redbone of "It's Cold Outside" is the best rendition I've ever heard.

elf was a lot better than i expected. its not *great* but its watchable.

Bad Santa is my favorite, ill watch it any time.
