which has the best clip in terms of security and ease of install. i don't wanna jab my mobo with a screw driver by accident!

rank the following in terms of best clips:

Alpha pal6035
Global Win fop32-1
Thermaltake volcano II
Vantec FCE-62540D

I've never tried the others, but the alpha pal is really easy to get on didn't have to use a screw drive or anything. I heard the FOP32 was a real b*tch to get on.

I have heard that the Fop32-1 needs a lot of pressure to be installed correctly. I would definitely NOT reccomend the Vantec however. It comes with a 7K RPM fan, which will make you deaf . Try going with the Taisol CGK742092 which is about $28 shipped from inflowdirect. This is one of the easier clips to install, and is among the quieter fans.

I would say the fop32 heatsink is the BEST.
Not the easiest though.

Why is it the best?
Because it applies a lot of pressure onto the chip.
Why is that good?
Spreads out your layer of heatsink paste thinner (better thermal transfer)
Why is that bad?
If you dont have the right tools (pair of angled needle nose pliers) to install it, be very careful.

However if you want the absolute easiest, the pal's is probably the best.

I don't know why so many people say that the fop clip is so hard to install. If you do it carefully you can have that thing on and off in a matter of seconds. I like to use a crosshead screwdriver, and just apply pressure on the clip, instead of that flat plate where you can use a flathead screw driver. I place the crosshead screw driver in between the blades of the fan, and from there place it on the clip and apply pressure, and before you know it, it is on.

everyone said the vantec clip is really easy to install.. i bought it at inflow direct since it was on sale.. but i also got a sunon 60x25 fan too if i dont like the 7k one ... if there is too much performance drop ill buy a blower or something to assist the fan

I am using the New Taisol CGK. The clip is Screwdriver only install and removal. I'm not sure why everyone has trouble holding a screwdriver or holding it stedy or whatever the reason. Easy install and the clip is by far the best I've ever seen and used. Utilizes all three tabs on the socket, and puts the presure right over the slug, NOT in the center of the HS base. Snug fit. and the cooling power of this New Taisol is remarkable. Using 2 YS-tech 31 cfm fans(60mm) and my D6@1000 has no troubles. mbm5 shows 107F under full load on my Abit ktz-raid

The Volcano 2's clip is nice and tight and very easy to install. They've included a small notch for a small flat head screw driver. Unlike the FOP32/38, it doesn't slip off.

I scared my friend (who isnt that computer savvy) into getting the vantec unit.
The thing installed so easily. it was just unbelieveable how easily it isntalled. I dnot get why other companies dont have a similarclip. it was great!!!
The taisol is pretty easy with a screw driver, but on mobos like the kt7 you cant fit a flathead in the clip.
oh yeah, jonnneee u got PM.

Alpha is the easiest for me anyway.

The FOP was a nightmare. Also the clip has two pieces and the part with the hole came off as I was trying to remove it. Next time I install it I will use the clip from the Taisol on the FOP.

I have no experience with the Vantec.

BTW Im now running the PAL with the Sanyo Denki. Would t he Sanyo FOP be a better comination? Is it worth going through the polishing/scraping routine again? (and you know I like to do that!)

The alpha use the least pressure. It's like using paper clips. I will suggest the Vantec since I got all of these coolers before. The Vantec will give as much pressure as the FOP38. They made the clip a lot easier to use though. Trust me. I have tried them all. The alpha will require some ties to give it more pressure.

i've tried both the alpha and the fop38. the fop was alot easier than what i expected, especially using a screwdriver, got it off and on ina couple of seconds. the alpha i thought was alittle harder, not to push down, but to move the swivel that has the hole for the clip once the clip is depressed. then again i wasnt using a screwdriver at all. the fop is alot louder though.

It's kind of ironic that I saw this thread tonight. I snapped my FOP32-1 clip about 30 minutes ago.

Has anyone every repaired a snapped clip? Is there anywhere to get a replacement?

I think that the PAL and Taisol are both pretty damn easy to install. For the PAL I would suggest attaching the second side of the clip with a pair of needle-noise pliers (curved preferably) and for the Taisol just use the screwdriver slot they provide. Both have pretty low risk of mobo destroying due to good design. I have the Thermaltake and the GlobalWin sitting around here somewhere but I havn't gotten around to giving them a go yet.

I just put on an AlphaPal last night and it was major league easy. After some unexplainable problems getting my computer to boot, there was a 10 degree drop in temperature on my P3 700e in Quake 3 Team Arena (55 degrees C to 45 degrees C.) I upped the voltage to 1.80 and the CPU to 933 to and it seems stable now (it would not run quake 3 at that speed before -- locked ups qucikly). I played Quake 3 for about 15 minutes and the temp only went to 51 degrees C and no lock ups. This may work after all.
