Best codec pack?

I originall had ffdshow and klite codec pack standard, but they dont work well anymore. any idea what i should get? thanks...

and i dont want something that works only thru media player classic or VLC.

Combined Community Codec Pack is the best ive used personally...or the XP codec pack whatever its called.

When I set up a computer, I install divx 3 (there's an audio codec in there that was used a lot in years past), and ffdshow, and that's it. Rarely do I come across a video file that will not run with just those installed.

Of course VLC is not a codec pack. However it already has all of the codecs embedded. So it can play pretty much any file without you having to install any additional codecs on your PC.

It's FFDSHOW based, but tweaked to work with basiclaly every format and container of video file you can shake a stick at. And to be correct, one would call it a DE-coding pack, because you can't actually encode anything with it.

I though I'd ask here before posting a new thread. My biggest problem is that for some reason the codecs are slow. Meaning it takes a second or two to start playing a file which is very annoying.

Usually with k lite or mega codec pack if I only install only some of the playback codecs or ffdshow it is fast, but lately it is always slow.

It seems it is always slow, even with CCCP codec pack and ffdshow always works for a short time but then becomes buggy and cannot play some files and is also slow now.

Anybody know what codecs or settings can slow a file lading, maybe searching for the best codec or something? And is there any way to change something or reset something to make it fast again.

I've always used the Defiler pack and RP/QT Alternative codecs with excellent results.
