Best config for an H100 in a 600T case

I recently build a rig in a corsair 600T case. The setup is an I5 3570K ivy, 16gb Vengence Ram on an Asus P8Z77-V motherboard, I'd like to start overclocking. The problem with the 600T case is the lack of room at the top of the motherboard try and the roof of the case to be able to add a second set of fans for a push/pull config.

My question is would it be alright and result in good temps if I mounted the fans on top in a pull exhust config? I very well could mount those in a push config and push air down into the case, but I'd like to avoid this if possible due to the possibility of dust. I've also thought of buying a couple of the 1400rpm sycthe 12mm thick fans, but I worry they will either make too much noise on the higher rpm model or not push enough air on the mid rpm model to make any difference.

I'd also be opened to possibly an H80 in a push/pull in the rear if it'll be as good or close to what I'd get with the H100, currently I'm running a coolermaster Hyper212+ in a push/pull and it barely fits with my ram.

thanks!

looks like a lot of people are doing push/ pull by placing two fans on the top / outside of the case.
If it was me, I'd have the fans exhaust air from the case

another forum: http://www.overclock.net/t/1225249/pics-h100-push-pull-in-a-600t

I have a H100 on my 3770k in push pull on my NZXT Switch 810. I have tried exhaust and intake with the same fan configurations and didnt notice a difference. So exhaust to me is the obvious choice do to intake, well in-taking dust and hair or w/e.

Cool, so If I mount the fans on the external top bay in a pull (exhust) config I shouldn't have any issues?? thanks for the help guys..

your best bet is to try that out and see how it works. if temps are on the high side, get two additional fans and do push/pull, with the two pulls being on the outside

I will try. Pulls will be on the outside, that was my intentions all along. The problem is clearance on the bottom for the push fans, I don't believe standard 25mm fans are going to work for me due to the memory slots and even possibly the location of the 8pin power. I'll give it a shot, fans are cheap enough. thanks again

You can set up the H100's fans as exhaust, but you're going to give up performance. You'd be cooling with preheated air, not the best way to make it work.

I think the whole push/pull thing is overrated. I had my H100 in a push/pull config and due to fan noise, I decided to get rid of two fans and just left the other two on the outside of the case in a pull config. Little did I know my temps would drop an average of 10-15C degrees!

With push/pull, I was getting mid to upper 90s on full load with a 3770K overclocked to 4.9Ghz @ 1.45v. After going with the pull config, now I get low to mid 80s. Just by going pull instead of push/pull, on full load. And when I say full load, I'm talking about Prime95 and not normal use. Normal usage now I get upper 40s to low 50s, where as on push/pull, I was mid 60s.

And the right choice is to run pull on any fans on top of the case. Hot air rises so if you run push through the top, all you doing is messing up your airflow within the case and making matters worse.

For instance, I have a Cooler Master Cosmos S and I have the bottom front, bottom, and side panel fans on intake mode (pulling cold air into the case) and the mid rear and top fans on exhaust mode (pulling warm air out of the case).

If you have smooth, positive flow inside the case, the ambient air inside the case won't have much time to warm up and thus will not affect the performance of the H100 radiator.

So, if I have a fairly generic case and wish to try water cooling to lower temps for potentially higher overclocks which system should I use: H100, H80, or something else.

Should I just stick to air cooling? (I don't mind spending $100.00 more if I get a decent return on investment.)

I just ordered a I5 3750K and an ASRock motherboard.

How easy is it to adapt the H100 to your situation(make it work with a not-fancy case)?

Is the H80 a better bet?

Thanks in advance for any information and opinions.

I have to agree with Dmoney. The H80 is a good option when you have a case that won't accomodate the H100. I have a Cooler Master Cosmos S and it fits perfectly.

I have an Antec 900 (an over rated, over priced thing). I have several mid size generic Rosewell cases, just mid-size towers. I could buy another case.

I also have a rotary tool and could cut some holes if needed.

I'm still not sure how the radiator and fans should be mounted on the case (inside or outside or just make it work somehow.).

if you google antec 900 with h100 you'll see that people were able to jerry rig the h100 into fitting in the front of the case.

Thanks for the input.

I see that you have to give up the bottom six front bays to fit the H100 radiator. Installing a H80 seems to be really easy.

I was wondering if any one uses an external mount on the radiator. It looks like it wouldn't be to hard to feed the tubes through a couple of holes in the case. I've never moded a case so I'm probably being silly.

Both the H100 and H80 are closed loop systems, which means you can't take it apart to feed the tubes through the tube holes. You would have to dremel up a hole in the case large enough to fit the waterblock through.

Hello (first post here)

I understand the frustration of ram-clearance v h100 regarding the 600t...
They need to say that H80+"tall ram"+600t=no-work!

After much head scratching and anger switched to h100.
A bit tight in spots, totally doable. Plus, the weirdo 600 "not a mid/not a full sizer" has its benefits (it's a plumper isn't it?)

After too much time spent @ micro center best solution I found:

Using 4 120mm /w h100/600case=no way, unless custom mods are a source of relaxation. 2 fans atop (outside case) work great. This build is the opposite of my older x58 haf 932, with a gazillion fans super air etc...

I'm liking the "sealed" approach, no dust...exit fan is 1 single enermax magma.

I use computers for audio (job/passion)...I do have a 1 game on computer rule.
Because of recording, decibels are an issue. I switched the h100 stock for the sp100s. Everything is great.

I apologize, don't have my specs up as this is first post. Here they are

3930k P9X79PRO
64 gig corsair vengeance 1600
Vertex 4 256 SSD
raid 5 2tb x3
Antec 1200 PWS
H100/600case
670 ftw

Audio stuff kinda irrelevant here,
AD/DAs main RME
I/O RME FF 800
RME gear for jitters (word clock)

Am at 4.5ghz, 39-45 (will prob under clock a bit, VC @ 1.39 a bit high for me)

if the Db(a) is no issue stock are fine imo.

(Sorry about this jumbled post, I'll get my profile in order)

Ty!

If noise is a hindrance to your work with audio, try getting some sound dampening foam for the side panels of the 600T. They're something like you would find in a more silence optimized Corsair 550D or Fractal's cases. Adding a manual fan controller really helps too if you want some more noise reduction. Since you're in control of how fast the fan should be, the fans can be as quiet or as noisy as you want it to be.
