best config for my WAP54g? need more distance/coverage

i have a WAP54G ACCESS POINT

i was wondering what the best config would be for better distance and more coverage. i am willing to sacrifice some speed to get the distance i need.

here are my current settings

use netstumbler to find the channel with the best SNR that is at least 4 channels from another AP. It's better to share a channel with an AP, then be less then 4 channels away.

The main variable that determined the distance of a given Wireless unit is:

1. Environment
2. Type and quality of Antenna.

Playing with the hardware setting would yield any real gain.

OpenWRT and other custom firmware will allow you to boost transmit power and reception can be improved by a new antenna.

Pick up a WRT54G and configure the WAP54G as a wireless repeater. I did this yesterday in an old building and it worked like a champ.

How can the WAP54G be set up as a wireless signal repeater with the WRT54G router?

Wireless Repeater actually cuts the Bandwidth by half. (Since it has to Flip-Flop between Transmit, and Receive with a single Radio). However if used correctly it will increase the Distance.

Can the WAP54G be used as a repeater with any other router besides just the WRT54G? I know Linksys started putting a new crippled version of the WRT54G in the box recently and I was wondering if I could pick up a different router and still use the WAP54G as a repeater?
