dreamcast is the best design, hands down. way ahead of its time.

but i gotta give nintendo its due. everytime my sister and her friends come up to visit (they're all over 25) they still want to play dk on snes, bond or mariokart on n64, and warioware/mariokart/donkey konga on gamecube.

1/10 second blip? The 2600 was around for a very long time before anything could rival it. Despite the popular opinion, the 2600 actually started console gaming. I'd love to buy one today.

Snes and dreamcast were well ahead of its time.

Snes had :

Mario Kart
Killer Insticnt ( Like to see the megadrive/Gensis try that)
Street Fighter Alpha II
Mario RGP(important)
Pilotwings

Dreamcast:
Daytona
Shemnue
Funny enough I cant remember the rest !

I only have a ps2 now, but all my childhood memories are tied to NES/SNES.

tough call between NES and SNES... but I will vote for SNES.

I'd say Dreamcast, but ColecoVision had the best graphics and gameplay (IMHO) out of the "first" consoles compared to 2600 and Intellivision. I've still got an Adam somewhere in my basement.

I'll have to say that the Dreamcast was the best console itself. But the SNES had the best lineup ever. (taking the time into consideration)

I used to have one. Ok I take back the 1/10 second blip. Granted, it piqued my curiousity in video games, and the NES may not have been the success it was (ok, it wouldn't have been the success it was) without the 2600 before it, but the NES is what put and blew up console gaming to what it is today.

Saturn?
Just kidding.

Either SNes or Nes. I cant decide.
Does gameboy count?
If you buy an Advance SP you have access to a HUGE library of games.
And for the people crying "2600", sorry guys but by the actual numbers Americans bought far fewer Atari 2600 than Nes.
Stop remembering all the lame Nintendo bashing commercials they had. Atari lost ground quickly to the Nes and they had to make it look bad. I remember those commercials too. Like the one where they introduce an item on the Nes lineup, call it crap and then find a cool way to show the exact same thing on Atari, (Light gun, controllers, the console itself). Only its really worse and they dont want anyone to know that.

Nerds had Ataris, and wore T-shirts to prove it. But everybody had a Nintendo.
Thats really what started the revolution. At least from a corporate standpoint. The companies realized the market could be monstrous, if they pushed it correctly with advertising. And every time Atari had a new system, they bashed the Nintendo. Why? Becuase thats who was stomping them. Remember the Jaguar? Atari made a big fuss about how much faster it was than N64. But it didnt matter, because Nintendo still had all the good games. And thats what people are really playing, the games. Not the systems.

Of course, its fair to say N64 got killed by the weaker Playstation, for the same reason.

END OF RANT.

The 2600 was released eight (8) years before NES. The Atari had competitors in that time frame but none could beat it until the NES. The NES was advanced so of course the Atari wouldn't be able to compete. The point is the Atari started it all. In fact, the NES was the worst design of any console games because of the way the games loaded.

SNES for the games
NES for bringing me into video games
Dreamcast for the CDR mod-less hacks! ROFL
XBOX for the nice XBMC and homebrew scene
PS1/PS2 for keeping me interested in games

Hmmm... I think Atari actually actually get's that particular honor.

IMHO, Turbo Grafx 16 was [/b]WAY ahead of it's time[/b], and probably deserves more recognition than anybody here has given it.

When NES was 8bit, TG16 was 16bit w/ 256 colors, 6 channel sound, 5 player action, and the first console game with a CD drive! Years ahead of SegaCD. And to top it off, no bulky cartridges, the games were on Hu-Cards. I could carry a score of games in my back pocket; try doing that with NES or SNES games!

Oh, forgot to mention. Two TG16 Expresses could be hooked together with a cable to play head-to-head back in the late 80s. Now, how many years did it take for Nintendo to come out with a head-to-head color handheld????

Now, for the really astounding part: They made a handeld version called the Turbo Grafx Express. It had a 2.6" active-matrix color LCD, stearo sound, and even a TV tuner attachment to watch TV on the color screen, and drum roll please, it played the same freaking HU-Cards that the console system did! Whoh! You mean if I have Dungeon Explorer for my console TG16, I can play the same card in my handheld TG16 Express??? YES my good man, yes!!!!

Probably should take a look at this site to get a better idea about what was available BEFORE SNES saw the light of day....
That's nice. Too bad SNES had many more and much better games.

1) N64: GoldenEye, Mario 64, LoZ: OoT

3 of the best games ever created

2) NES: SMB, SMB3, Tecmo Bowl, LoZ, Tetris

after that, it's about a wash. PS1/2 = meh .. outclassed everywhere except for marketing (although the eyetoy is very original)

I really liked the Dreamcast .. wonder what ever happened to mine.
