If you have Costco membership, you owe to yourself to try La Grande Galette french butter cookies. You can only find it during the holiday season but these are my favorite cookies. It's buttery sweet with little sea salt sprinkled to counterbalance the sweetness. Absolutely perfect and great with coffee.

Sorry no mass produced cookie that has been baked a month ago is the best cookie. I'll go to Flour(local bakery) or a pastry shop if I want awesome cookies.

Best cookies? False. The best cookies are fresh baked chocolate chip cookies

The worst are raisin cookies which are mostly only consumed because they trick people into thinking they are delicious chocolate chip cookies

As good as the tin can cookies from the Netherlands?

I gotta say though, like Chocolate, Europeans know how to make some good cookies.

Typical ATOT response. No, your local bakery do not make better cookies.

Chocolate chip cookies are for kids.
Wait, this thread isn't about white chocolate chip and macadamia nut cookies. I was led to believe it was going to be about the best cookies.
Good cookies don't need fake chocolate and expensive nuts. There's no need to mask the taste.

French makes the best butter cookies.

I've recently found that Panera cookies are freaking unbelievably good. Soft, not overly sweet, delicious.

We also have these blended cookies that a local shop sells that I can't remember the brand but they're individually wrapped and super delicious.

Really, any cookie that isn't fully baked, or is really soft/chewy, is the perfect cookie.

Silly millennials...while the mass-produced cookies in the OP might be tasty...

they can't possibly compare to REAL, home-made cookies.

As for raisins...I'm not a fan. If a cookie recipe calls for raisins...we usually substitute "Craisins," which are dried cranberries. MUCH better.

I 100% agree with this.

Totally disagree. Chocolate Chips are disgusting, and its one of the few types of cookies that I dislike. I know I'm in the minority, but I definitely dislike the taste.

Trader Joe's Chocolate Chip cookie dough in the refrigerated aisle is very good. A bit of bitter aftertaste, but I dig it.

A cookie purist, huh? The cookie is just a vehicle in which to deliver pounds of butter and sugar into my mouth. Much like a hotdog, any topping that wants to come along for the ride is welcome.

Except raisins**. Raising can suck it.

(**raisins occasionally allowed in oatmeal cookie form.)

Nope, a fresh warm cookie beats some dry hard cookie baked months ago every day of the week.

That times 1000. No matter what your preference might be for flavors and no matter where you stand on chocolate chips or raisins or shapes or the eternal soft vs crispy debate, the best cookie most assuredly does not come from a tin box. Any home baker that even knows which end of a spoon to hold would be able to surpass a canned cookie without much thought, effort or practice. And nominating any packaged cookie as "best" is like nominating Dominoes or Pizza Hut or Little Caesars as "best" pizza. The idea is so ludicrous that you mark yourself as a tasteless fool the moment you suggest it.

White chocolate macadamia or white chocolate cranberry. Or all three in one.

Also chocolate chip/chunk if the chocolate is actually good (few dessert ingredients can compete with the rich, nuanced aromas and flavors that real chocolate cacao/cocoa can provide). Those who say they don't like chocolate in cookies: I'm very sorry you have no tastebuds or sense of smell.

Butterscotch chip cookies are fantastic, too:

Sugar Bowl Petite Palmiers are the superior cookie

https://www.costco.com/Sugar-Bowl-Petite-Palmiers,-32-oz.product.100377388.html

...there's probably a pound of butter in that package
There are too many things wrong with that cookie just from the picture that I wouldn't buy it. First, it's made in San Francisco. So we already know it can't be better. France butter is better than USA butter. Next, the cookies are too thick. So when you bite into it, it doesn't break and melt in your mouth. You'll just have big clumps and you have to drink gallon of milk to cleanse your mouth and wash it down. Third, you can tell they don't care about freshness of their cookies or their product. Once you open Sugar Bowl Petite Palmiers, you have to eat the whole 2 lbs of cookies in one sitting since it's all exposed to air. What normal human being can eat 2 pounds of butter in one sitting? I can't see the ingredient list but I will be shocked if it doesn't include some artificial items.

La Grande Galette comes in airtight metal tin. That's more expensive than cheap plastic. Cookies are made with 7 ingredients: Wheat flour, butter, sugar, eggs, sea salt, skimmed milk powder, and baking powder. The butter cookies are not overly thick so it easily breaks and melts in your mouth. And you taste the sea salt at the end which neutralizes the overly sweet and heavy butter taste you get with most butter cookies. The cookies are masterpiece. And they vacuum seal 3 cookies per plastic bag for perfect portion control and freshness. So you don't ruin the rest of the cookies in the can when you open and eat 3 cookies.
