Best credit card for Grocery stores?

i used to use Discover. my supermarket allowed me to get $50 cashover, and Discover gave me cashback on the cashover.

well, this month they finally stopped allowing cashback on cashover. there is no longer a reason to carry this card since Costco Amex gives me 5% cashback on gas. (i have business version.)

What's the best credit card for grocery stores?

I think chase has the best one, the last I heard.


I still have their old card that gives 5% for gas and groceries. I also have the Business Costco AA and use that more now since they have the 2% over $300 and I get 2% back from costco as well.

Kroger Credit Card gives you Kroger bucks on all purchases, paid quarterly. No cash back option, however It also gives you $.15/gallon at any Kroger gas station. Not bad, when they are already selling it at competitive prices.

amex blue cash? 5% back IIRC. there is a yearly minimum though

Chase Freedom gives 3.75% cash back on groceries, assuming it is one of your top 3 spending categories each month.

The Penfed credit card gives 2% cash back on groceries.

I like Penfed because it also gives 5% on gas. I used to chase around every percentage point, but now I'm happy with Business Amex for costco, penfed for gas and groceries, fidelity (1.5%) for everything else. 3 cards in my wallet is plenty

The Citi Diamond Preferred Rewards card offers 5% reward at grocery stores for the first year. AmEx Blue Cash hits 5% rewards at grocery stores after you get to $6500 in year-to-date spending. You might also want to check the rewards calculator mentioned in my signature to see if there are other good cards for groceries, or for your total spending profile.

Incidentally, the Discover card is paying 5% at grocery stores this October thru December (on up to $400 in spending). It's the current "get more" promo. Those 5% "get more" offers are the main reason I keep my Discover card. Also, if you happen to be near one of the malls that participates in their holiday promotions, the 10% reward at those malls in November and December is pretty nice.
