well i am open to either; as long as the 21inch is good quality and under $400 id go for that, otherwise a nice 19" will be good. i want it to be able to display 1600x1200 properly though, and id rather it to do so at 85hz

Nec/Mitsu Diamondron seems to the be the favorite from my research. I guess it is a wonderful monitor. Also take a look at the Viewsonic (comparable model to any NEC you look at) because they are also well liked.

I'd stick with those two, they always are mentioned as favorites. That and the Sont trinitron.

IMO, go with the NEC though. I am buying a 19"

$400 will get you refurb 21". New ones are over $400. Are you OK in getting used/refurb?

I don't have room for a 21" and I think it they are too big (at least for me) 18" viewable is perfect!
I love refurb stuff. In my experience is it more reliable than new. It has been checked TWICE. Plus it is cheaper.

Consider the Sony G420 and the G520 - they are 19" and 21".

For whatever its worth, the G520 was Maximum PC's Monitor Pick for the past 4 years (until it got ousted by the HP 2304 and the Dell 2001FP (both LCDs ).

Is there are reason why you *need* a CRT? Because you can buy a 19" LCD for the same price (although I would go for a 20" LCD for slightly higher price - I understand you are on a budget though).

Hell if you weren't across the Ocean I'd just have you send me the funds to hook you up ...I'd go with a 21"...NEC/Mitsu are top notch so go to 1 Puter store in your area and look see for your self with a similar Vid card/Monitor test.

You'll want .24 dot, Natural Flat Screen, and DVI hookup if possible...another important factor (@ least to me) is to make sure that the Monitor is from (made in) Japan as many Manu's (ie.Sony, NEC) come from Malaysia or other places then where the Company is from and their QC is not as stringent as the Mainvein Corp/Production line.
