this seems like a hot deal to me. Can some one plz confirm that this works with comcast. I dont quite understand why any modem should not work with a ISP as long as its docsis compatible?

You need to check with your LOCAL cable company, the modems supported by cable companies sometimes vary in different area's of the country. This modem was actually one of the 3 recomended modems with my local company (COX)

Most Cable companies download a config file to your modem (that is modem specific) when it connects. If they don't have the config file for your modem, then you can't connect. This file is what sets your upload/download speeds amoung other things.

But don't try and hack (uncap) your modem for higher speeds. If you do, you'll soon be at the top of your providers list of bandwidth hogs, and then it's by-by cable connection........:Q

This does look like the best deal I've ever seen on a cable modem.
My 3COM sharkfin sucks, but I couldn't justify spending $70...

It is DOCSIS compliant, so it should be OK for most cable operators.

I have the BestData CMX110 with ATT Broadband. I've had it for about a year, no problems whatsoever. Only thing it doesn't have is an HTML info page you can hit on the modem to get modem diagnostic info. Never really missed it though since I never had any problems.

The modem itself is fugly (im currently leasing one from AT&T) but it works ok. If I were on the market to buy a cable modem though i'd spend a few more bucks and get myself a nice Linksys cable modem (sexay and packed with features...also goes well with linksys routers ).

What the heck? I cannot add the modem to my cart. It doesn't say that it's out of stock. The only ones I can add to my cart are the private seller ones starting at $89.95. That's messed up, Amazon really screwed up their site with all that crap trying to be like Ebay.

Sometimes I really Like Amazon.

They replied to my email quickly & are crediting my credit card the $20 differemce between the $69 I payed them a couple days ago & the $49 it was just selling for now.

Combined with the $10 coupon I used (I bought a couple other things)
(69.97-$20 credit - $10 coupon -30 mir) = Comes out to $9.97 :Q

Almost all of that & the other stuff I bought was paid for with free Gift certificates I got over the last year (surveys & stuff)

I'll actually have a $30 profit when I'm done + another $15 per month in my pocket since I can return the expensive rental modem.

I've been using this modem with AT&T for a while now and it's been trouble free. Paid $100
I go to the Cnet Bandwidth Meter and regularly get 1.5 sometimes 1.8 Mbps.

I just called Time Warner, Milwaukee, and they say they only support 3 Motorola modems, and a 3Com. AND, if you have you're own modem, they don't care because it won't save you any money :-(

I have same comment. Plus, it was about 8 months ago and I paid $100 after rebate at Amazon. AT&t charged me $9.95 to swap out their modem.


Side comment .. ATT has about the lousiest customer "service" I have experienced.

I bought this modem abought 18 months ago at Fry's for $150.
Been using it with Cox here in Phoenix. It is ugly and barebones, but haven't had any problems beyond having to unplug it a handful of times to 'reset it' when losing connectivity. I suspect that problem is mostly on the ISP side.

Just got my modem today & I've already switched from my old rental Motorola CyberSurfr modem. Just called up Cox & it only took about 10 minutes.

I don't know about it being ugly, looks better than my old one, and runs alot cooler too.

Speed seems the same.

That is what Docsis is for. If your cable company supports Docsys 1.0, then any cable modem that supports it as well, should work and handle the configurations file download just fine.

I called Charter, to see if any modems had problems and, they said most Docsis 1.0 modems work fine, although problems with certain 3com and Linksys models exist.

According to tracking, I should have mine by Thursday, so we will see.
