i will be using a Q6600 processor with a GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L motherboard (P35 chipset)
the motherboard does support DDR2-1066

im looking to get 4GB total (2x2GB)

i was thinking of just getting DDR2-800 and overclocking it to at least near 1066 because i couldnt find any memory that had good reviews.

i was thinking of getting OCZ Reaper HPC Edition.

i think for overlocking they might be my best bet my only concern is that they might not fit because ill be using a ZALMAN CNPS 9700 NT.

please give me any suggestions of DDR2-800 or DDR2-1066 memory modules that you think is good for me (4GB).

What overclock are you aiming for?

With a Q6600, you're not going to be getting your chip any higher than 3.6GHz, at least not on air cooling. Running your RAM at a 1:1 ratio DDR2-800 will allow you to hit 3.6GHz, assuming your chip and motherboard can do so. Just get any decent DDR2-800.

The G.Skill should work just fine, and I'd prefer them for the simple reason that the OCZ sticks require 2.1V. You're less likely to run into problems with memory that runs smoothly at the standard 1.8V.

All DDR2 can run smoothy @ 1.8V

How fast it can run @ 1.8V is another matter.

I like what you're saying in theory, but it doesn't really entirely match with reality with regards to RAM unless you are wanting to run it on a generic motherboard @ 1.8V.

would u go with the reaper sticks that i showed before or are they kinda overkill?
could i get away with these:

am i going to be able to notice the difference in timings?

Those G.SKILLs are a hell of a deal, I have them and they are great.

They do 900 @ 1.9V
They do 1000 @ 2.0V - 2.1V

I'd certainly get the G.Skill over the Reapers, since the Reapers have those stupidly big heatsinks that mean trouble with fitting big CPU coolers, & no side by side use, meaning no 8 GB IIRC.

But the G.Skill PQ DDR2-800 kit isn't all that impressive for heavy OCing.

If you want the best 2x2 GB DDR2-800 kit for overclocking, you get this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820146726

It should usually do 500-550 MHz, basically the same as the DDR2-1000 G.Skills or the DDR2-1000 Mushkin Redline.

It also costs around the same though.
Redlines $110 AR right now on teh egg.

I just got these, but can't comment on overclocking since they are due to arrive on Thursday:

Fair enough. Of course what I meant is running at its rated speed at 1.8V.

With the number of threads I see here and elsewhere asking "Why am I getting BSODs with my new RAM" I'm comfortable saying there's a segment of the population that should stick to 1.8V RAM until they have a little bit more experience.

Plus it seems to me, although I could be wrong, that RAM running at a lower voltage would generate less heat.

I am thinking about getting the same model RAM.
Will it work fine with a GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L motherboard (and Q6600 CPU)?

According to the reviews on newegg.com some people had issues
and were asked by the company rep what mobo they were using.

If I were going to take a stab at a possible cause of the problem, the DS3L doesn't automatically adjust RAM voltage. It will run with a Vdimm of 1.8 unless you tell it to do otherwise. To achieve their rated timings and speed, those G.Skill sticks like to have 2.0-2.1V, as you can see in the specs. If you use that RAM, be sure to manually adjust the RAM voltage in the BIOS the first time you boot up. If it doesn't POST with the sticks, try it with just one stick first.

That may not cover all of the issues in the reviews, but my guess is that at least a few people having the problem didn't adjust the voltage.

Works great in my Abit IP35 Pro and Q6600. Though I haven't aggressively OC'd it much.. sticking to a 9x368 OC for now.

I have Buffalo Firestix PC-6400 on my gigabyte ds3l board and they are great overclockers. I currently have them running at 1000mhz with 4-4-4-12 timings at 2.1v which according to the package the ram came in 2.1v is the recommended voltage on these. And they are Micron D9 chips.

So I would recommend buffalo and they are only $50 at directron.com for 2x1gig.
