Good calls on these:
Led Zeppelin 1 - Changed the face of rock forever.
Boston - Incredible album, only 1 bad song, and it's not too bad (Let Me Take You Home Tonight)
Black Sabbath - Can you say Ozzy? The birth of heavy metal, and sounds modern even today
Guns -N- Roses - Appetite For Destruction - Kicks some serious butt.

Pearl Jam, Ten
Weezer, (the blue album... I think it's official title might have been Weezer)
Elvis Costello, My Aim is True

honorable mention for No Doubt's Tragic Kingdom (technically not the first album, but it was the first album with what became the final No Doubt line-up)

You mean:

Oasis - What's the Story Morning Glory? I wouldn't count DM as a debut for Oasis...not very widely played.

What are you talking about?

Even if it was not widely played (and it was widely played) it was still their first album. It's like saying Nirvana's Bleach didn't count.

oh....my vote, Oasis: Definately Maybe.

What radio station did you listen to?? I thought DM was overplayed on my alt rock station..

My votes:
Oasis - Definately Maybe
Pearl Jam - Ten
Matchbox 20 - Yourself or Someone Like You

WTF?

That is not her debut album.

Nope it's not.

Her first was pop dance garbage to the max...then she went all angsty & came out with Jagged a few yrs later IIRC.

Jagged = one of the better ones though it's not really a debut.

are you fvcking retarded? that was like their 3rd or 4th album.

my vote goes to Boston or Pearl Jam's Ten. Although I think for sustained quality from song 1 to the last song, Pearl Jam's Ten will beat any album anyone has mentioned. Yeah, so Appetite For Destruction had two really KILLER songs but the rest was filler at best and utter crap at worst.

Smashing Pumpkin's Gish is close, though. It looks worse in comparison because their later stuff was even better, whereas most of the bands in this thread never matched their first albums.

Boston: Boston 1976 11th best selling album of all time, and highest début album for anyone.
16 million copies have been sold in the USA alone.

I had to look that up to see that you were correct, as I was damn near positive that honor was held by Meat Loaf's "Bat out of hell" album, but Boston beats it by about a million copies or so.

Again the releases prior to Dookie were EPs and private label limited distributions (underground). Most of the albums listed here were not the Artist's first.

Basically 1000 hours and Kerplunk don't count.

Oasis's Definitely Maybe has Pearl Jam beat.....Ten is a great debut album but saying that Appetite for Destruction has only two good songs??...please....might as well say Ten only has Alive and Evenflow as the only good songs on the album.
