Best Digital Camera for around $200 street/internet

I got an Optio S40 last year for $200, it is kind of slowand has a small LCD, but takes great pictures and is really compact. (if that is important)

If you want a very portable camera then you could do the Canon sd200. I bought one 2-3 weeks ago from amazon for174 bucks.

Last week I picked up the Canon A610 for just over two hundred, $204 to be exact. I got it from Dell with free shipping, so ~$220 to my door. Received it in two days. I'm very impressed.

I bought my wife this camera from dell several weeks ago for around 250ish and she loves it. I know they make a 4 and a 3 mega pixel version with the same body so you maybe able to pick up that one if dell doesn't have another couplon deal before then.

I've seen the Canon A520 for $139 and A610 for $204 both from Dell.com after coupon codes.

Dell currently has a 15% off digital cameras coupon code which expires 12/15 or sooner.

Good value. 1mp more, 6X optical and image stabilization. No real manual controls however and it's not Canon or Nikon, if that matters.

Meijer has the a510/a520 advertised this week as being $150 (no rebates). They show the a510 in the ad (3.2MP), but it says that price is also good for the a520, which is 4MP.

I paid $171 for that camera from ZipZoomFly a couple weeks ago, so $150 is a decent deal.

It's a Christmas present for the folks, so I can't comment on quality. The reviews were very good, several places called it the best camera in the $200 price range and Consumer Reports gave it a Best Buy award.

I picked up a Nikon 4600 for my Mom, $145 shipped @ Amazon. My gf has a Nikon 2200 from years ago that KICKS ASS. It takes great photos with minimal effort, it really rocks. I hope the 4600 is just as good in that regard. Still a great deal IMO. Uses SD cards btw

Agreed, although I've heard that Kodak has made significant improvements to their camera line.

I didn't want to start a new thread, so I'm bringing this one up again, since my question is sort of similar to OP's, and a couple more specific demands:

1. price range $200-$250 (though the closer to $200 the better I'm off).
2. Takes good pictures (decent res).
3. Works fast (I guess as long as it doesn't 'crawl' it'll be fine)
4. Suitable for travel - light & easy to carry/handle.
5. Can shoot clips w/sound.

From most of the above discussion I understand that 'till 3 months ago Canon A520 or A610 would be the best bang for my bucks, I wonder if it still is so, and also if there are any alternatives (brands) incase I can't find these Canon models. Thanks.

A friend of mine has this camera and she's quite happy with it. I think it meets your needs as well, maybe you can read some reviews on sites like CNET, and get a better idea.
