One of the most important things in picking a good food is being able to have access to it.

Fwiw, Costco near me has just introduced a couple new Kirkland brand grain-free options for dogs.
Iirc, about $30, 30lb bags, a turkey option and a slightly more expensive salmon option ($35). Would love to know who the brand behind it is. $1/lb is about as cheap as it gets for grain-free...usually $1.50/lb or more.
Not really true. Some people get by on terrible diets. I doubt you really did the 3 month of each food test...it normally doesn't work out that way.
If you think Pro Plan is a great food that is sort of sad.

What makes it not good? It's the only food I've found so far that both my dogs can eat without having digestive problems. Are you really on some sort of moral high horse about what kind of food you feed your dogs? I guess it's not too surprising considering its you afterall.

Its a Dachshund, 6.5 years old, activity level is low-medium. He weighs like 17-18 lbs (maybe less).
I have noticed a lot of the good foods are produced in Canada which i thought was odd. There is one brand (Earthborn) that is made about 4 hours away from me so I bet that would be available.

Earthborn is a 3 star food it looks...not a terrible choice.
The other aspect is the price...there are a lot of differences in cost to the foods at all levels.
For me Wellness Core offers good bang for buck and I can get it at most pet stores. Blue Buffalo and Taste of the Wild are available more limitly and some 'flavors' go out of stock.
BTW I have about 9 years of college...7 years were in ZOOLOGY and BIOLOGY. I have also been extremely animal active since high school in various charities and programs.

i've been feeding my kittens fancy feast canned food since that's what they were feeding them before i got them. their dry food was a mix of royal canin and purina pro selects. now that it's been a few months, i've managed to upgrade the dry food to 50/50 blue wilderness and purina pro selects, and i've been trying to mix in some better canned food to replace the fancy feast crap, but i notice if i do it too quick, i have kitty assplosions
Most canned foods are better than dry as a whole.
Fancy Feast caused one of my parent's cats to develop some food related illnesses due to the high ash content. This was about 15 years ago so they may have changed their formulary.
Because I don't have 3 hours a day to lie around chewing on real dog bones. (Not crap like Milk Bones)so why brush your own teeth?
