Earthborn is a 3 star food it looks...not a terrible choice.

The other aspect is the price...there are a lot of differences in cost to the foods at all levels.

For me Wellness Core offers good bang for buck and I can get it at most pet stores. Blue Buffalo and Taste of the Wild are available more limitly and some 'flavors' go out of stock.

That is why I brought up amazon.com. I can get a bag of Taste of the Wild from them for $49 shipped. The bags at my local pet store are $45-49 + tax + gas + my time.

on foods I find it rare that they are cheaper than locally for me.

Also if doing this, order early as you can get a bad/ruptured bag and be out for a week+ for replacement.

Some vendors are selling older stock as well so check expiration dates.

$57 vs $48+tax is going to be at least a 15% premium for many people...as far as time, I bring my dogs to the pet store so I leverage that time for their enjoyment.

15% may not be a lot for the service, but with the tipping threads here as well as many averted to spending the money on a premium food to begin with may be a deal breaker.

I do buy my pig ears online. It works out to paying for 65-75 ears, but getting 100.

not a big deal to me cuz I'm only 5 minutes away from a few different pet stores, but if you're 30+ minutes away, I can see how Amazon would be better.

If I had money to blow, I'd buy from AMZ all the time.

Don't get me wrong...I do almost 90% of my shopping online. With food and medicines a lot of times I don't trust the delivery methods nor guaranteeing I am getting fresh products.

I have tried do order this kind of stuff. Sometimes the bags are in great shape, sometimes things meant to be kept at certain temps are shipped 'normally' or with a ice pack that is warm and melted when it arrives...also many times I got products close to their expiration dates.

Never said it would be cheaper/a wash for everybody but it is worth checking. Doesn't hurt that I also have an amazon credit card and get 3% back too.

oh and some of them offer a subscription discount of 15%. None of the ones I buy though.

I'm not a fan of big-box pet stores (Pet-Smart/Co) but I do purchase TOTW from my local feed store. It's usually $45 - $5 coupon, a few miles of driving and 15 minutes of my time, but it's worth it to occasionally support local small businesses. And it's cheaper than Amazon.

Plus the owner of the feed store typically throws in a few dog treats/bones for my dogs to try.

I live in NYC, there's no pet stores nearby me, only overpriced boutique shops.

TOTW for $49 shipped is awesome sauce for my dog.

PetSupermarket and PetCo as well (though petco seems pricier than PetsMart and PetSupermarket, their variety makes the premium worth it).

Also many food brands offer monthly coupons (Wellness has a $3 off per month on dry food and $1 off on canned) for signing up on FaceBook or email.

Many have a first coupon worth more.

There is a $5 and $10 rebate on Wellness dry food now at least at PetSupermarket when I picked up some food this weekend. I stacked it with my $3 off Wellness and the $2 off $10 or more PetSupermarket coupons. $15 off total

I was already a Wellness email subscriber and got an email saying like us on FaceBook for another coupon. YMMV with that. You get a $5 off coupon for signing up and then monthly $1 off cans and $3 off bagged foods. Not a bad deal and some of the emails are decent in content.

Thanks, saved me a few bucks every month.

These companies are great! Quite a few are mailing me free samples to see how my doggy likes em.

Thanks alk! I dunno why people give you so much shit, in my experiences you have been very helpful. Man, taking care of your dog gets fucking expensive if you want to do it right (or as right as you can).

unfortunately anything that is expensive I do turns into a brag thread.

yet I still own just a 32" TV from 1997. I think if I wanted to brag I'd pick that as an option or updating my computer.

Everyone thinks I am a liar.

My first word as a kid was "Buff". He was our family dog. While my parents weren't so happy about that probably, they were really grateful when my knowledge lead them to stop listening to their local vet and drive to see mine when it was declared he would die in about a week and recommended euthanasia. He was treated for 3 months unsuccessfully.

My vet had him back to himself in two weeks and acting kitten-like the day after treatment (although he was still a mess). Unfortunately, that same cat passed away two weeks ago, over 5 years later from then.

I am 40, my wife is 50...our pets are the only kids we got other than relative's.

Kirkland's cat food is really really good. Their dog food never really comes up much in discussions, other than a possible recall way back when. I am not familiar with the new grain-free line up.

In general though Costco is known to not offer inferior products especially those that can embarrass them.

I just checked and their dog foods are in the better than average category.

I go through 1+ of their 25lb bags of Feline Maintenance each week.

Anyone wanna recommend a good dental chew toy for a small dog?

Nylabones and greenies.

Small dogs will probably need a professional teeth cleaning in their lives.

However most don't care or notice their 10+ year old dog lost a tooth or two.
