Don't use any of the automatic free ones because they are scams and they will add malware to your pc. I used http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect which is by intel and it detects the missing/outdated or unknown ones. From there you can go to the manufacturers website and download them.

Hope this helped

But 3rd party drivers sites claimed that they are clean from malware spyware viruses etc. Some of them are big brands.

The ONLY safe and accurate method of updating drivers is to go to the manufacturer websites and get the current drivers. Even Windows Update (the only legitimate bulk driver updater) gets it wrong sometimes.

ALL "driver updater" programs that claim to automatically update everything for free are either malware themselves, or install malware onto the system when they are installed. And the vast majority of the time they replace perfectly working drivers with drivers for the wrong devices, or with drivers that don't work, or with 'drivers' that are just simply more malware.

+2, any driver updater will turn your PC into a complete mess finding random drivers from here and there that are not even tested to work on your PC! Only upgrade drivers from the OEM manufacturer and really what do you expect from upgrading drivers? your PC will be faster? It won't! the only driver that may increase performance is the graphics card drivers and sometimes Intel Rapid Storage technology.

Leave the drivers the heck alone.

A +3 to Fardringle's comment. Yes, 3rd party driver collections are "virus/malware" free, but by their definition. They load you up with PUPs, which are considered malware by many. BTW, if what you have works, why change?

Like " AVG driver updater" programs that claim to automatically update everything for free are either malware themselves, or install malware onto the system when they are installed. And the vast majority of the time they replace perfectly working drivers with slimdrivers for the wrong devices, or with drivers that don't work, or with 'drivers' that are just simply more malware.
Yes it makes sense Fardingle I think i should to go manufacturer site to update drivers.

The closest I tried was SlimDrivers but it is way too adware-y and failed to update half the time on top of downloading from seriously slow servers. Drivers these days are one of those items that if they aren't broke, don't fix them so unless you really need to update them, it's always best to perform it manually.

Slimcleaner and Driver Updater (driver manager, driver etc) are malware that I remove from customers PCs daily. All "driver updater" softwares are malware, you dont need to update any drivers really other than the amd or nvidia drivers. And those should come from manufacturers website as all drivers should.

If the above is not 100% right it is as close as you can get. Even Microsoft regularly screws up driver updates. Use any "universal driver updater" at considerable risk. At best they will do nothing, and at worst they destroy your machine. In between they take your private data.

The manufacturer sites for boards or whole computers are the best bet.

It's funny though, that some of these websites that are just driving traffic to some paid driver-updating service or product, very often can be used to find a newer driver because they will maintain and display listings of devices by PCI Vendor, Device, and Subsys ID. And sometimes, will even link to driver versions on OEM websites such as from Dell, HP, Asus, and the like. Or someone posts a comment to the page with links to drivers, if comments are accepted.

Best is to just go through to the device properties of each device you want to update, locate the HW ID and search the net for those strings to find the device/chip vendor, the chip model, and whether it has a SUBSYS assigned to a particular OEM or brand.

One of these years, I've been meaning to do a good tutorial on how to do this....

Microsoft does not post drivers to Windows Update servers (with limited exceptions). The manufacturers or device vendors post them to Windows Update, when they submit a driver for WHQL signing or approval, they can opt for inclusion or distribution via Windows Update.

The Intel Driver Update Utility will not offer updates for companies who have 'opted out' of being included/supported by Intel's public driver releases. e.g. Toshiba is one who commonly opts-out of Intel driver release inclusion, for things like Intel graphics and IME. IOW, Toshiba wants you to get some drivers only from Toshiba. There are ways around it.

when i redo OS's, before I wipe the systems or upgrade systems,
i just copy the C: \Windows\System32\drivers and C: \Windows\System32\driverStore folder and search "find" in device manager.

saves time compared to always going manufacture's websites especially when you know the driver is already stable. helps microsoft find the correct and updated drivers better. and then if we want anything new, we can just use tools like Everest, etc. to better ID the installed driver and its signaturess

sometimes, with laptops or desktops or custom systems, the original manufacturer's page is completely useless because the parts may have been swapped or changed out, or the mass production clone build is from a different revision era(s) that was not addressed specifically on manufacture driver pages - in which case it's "hide and seek."

aside from using Everest as a search tool, not necessarily an auto-update tool, there was another one that started with "A" but forgot what the name was.

as most people know, a lot of driver-finding software exe's out there are plagued with unknown parasites and hijacking-malware.

If you don't know why you need new drivers, you probably don't need new drivers.

Newer =/= better!

All driver updater will install third party applications with drivers. so don't use it. Just get your driver from your hardware manufacturer website. no other way

I always use IObit Driver Booster. It is simple to use and free.
Download it install drivers and delete it.
But save installation for further use

Iobit is one of the less scummy options available, but it still installs other junk on the computer, and frequently tries to install old or incorrect drivers.

What about Windows Update Catalog? You can search on there for driver packages, that may not show up via just normal Windows Update.
