Hey guys, I know this belongs in networking but it doesn't get much traffic.

I know they are all probably the same, but can anyone suggest a 4port dsl/cable router for around $50?

I've never used the cheaper brands so I'm not real sure what to go with.
This will just be used for a basic home network.

I've used Belkin, SMC, DLink, Linksys, and Siemens. I've never had a technical issue with those, but if I were to choose by ease of use and value, I'd say d-link, and avoid Belkin and SMC...both of which were a pain in the a$$, and didn't have as many features as dlink and linksys. My current router is a wireless 614+ that was $20, and it very easy to work with and so far has played nice with the hodgepodge of networking stuff I have. A router should set you back $10-$20, and wireless ones can be scored for $20-$50 these days.

If you have a microcenter near you then they have a belkin 4 port router w/wireless on rebate for $19.99 ($59.99-$40). It is very easy to set-up.

Thanks for the replies, ya I don't have a microcenter around. I saw that post in hot deals about that one. I'm down south in Louisiana, never seen one of those around here.

Agreed, I'd say D-Link for value. I've also had bad experiences with SMC units failing. But you can't really go wrong buying any router. It'll do the job.

D-Link has a lifetime warranty btw.

Also, look for a router with a Print Server. It allows you to share your printer through the router too. It's an awesome feature that most routers lack.

I had good luck with my Linksys router, you can usually find them on sale in the for/sale forums or on sale usually in Sunday's ad. It seems wirless routers are pushing the prices down for these guys.

buy.com has it for 49.99 with free shipping then a 10.00 rebate.

Noooooo not D-Link. I have one of their routers on my desk right now, shut off, under my working LinkSys router.

The router essentially doubled my ping, ping between my computer, and the one next to it was like 20ms... Thats crazy.

Now with the LinkSys i have >1ms ping between the comp next to me and 15ms ping to the interweb. Also i don't like the D-Link because it didn't have as many options as my LinkSys router.

There both wireless 802.11B routers though, not sure if you're goin wireless. But thats my input
