My Duron 600 is at 1Ghz right now. I can't say it's the best for getting ther, but it couldn't have been too much easier

My personal track record for overclocking Durons:

600 --> 900MHz (mobo = KT7 nonRAID)
650 --> 721MHz (mobo = Amptron K7-805L)
700 --> 1083MHz (mobo = KT7 nonRAID)
750 --> 927MHz (mobo = KT7 nonRAID)

I'm going to try a Duron 800 on a KT7-RAID mobo in a couple of weeks. Should be interesting.

I have a cold house

My Duron 600 runs at 927 no sweat. It posts at 1017. I have not tried anything in between yet. This is with stock cooling in an Enlight 7237.

Got a new Vantec (w/ 7k rpm fan) on the way. I want to blow through 1Ghz before the ambient room temp goes up 30 degrees

Bang for buck is and always has been the 600, if you can get them. They do not make 600 anymore. I was fortunate to get a tray of 600's today and so far many are running at 1GHz. It's nice to be able to run them at 133MHz fsb on the new chipsets. 7.5 x 133 is a good little performer.

I've had plenty of 650, 700 and even 800 that would not do 1GHz, but, yet cost more. Go figure. :Q

kw3i: You must overclock your Duron if you wish to remain a member in good standing here at AnandTech. It's a rule.

I just bumped my Duron600@900 up to 1050 (105X10). It would NOT do anything higher than that. It would post and boot into windows @11X100, but it would have some fatal errors... :-(, so I'll have to settle for 1.05 ghz, :disgust: couldn't hit the 1.1 gigaherz mark.

650 @ 840, but have been @ 1.0.
Waiting on better HSF right now to help with cooling.

One question though.

My K7t-Raid will only let go to 114-115 FSB.

Can anyone tell me why, or offer suggestion how to get higher ?

I hate seeing all those at 133, and I can't. You know, a pride thing.

I'm just trying out amd with a MSI pro2a board coming and want to overclock, as I have done to all my intels. From what I found so far, the durons top out at 900-1000 depending on cooling so it doesnt make any difference what factory set one you buy, is that more or less correct?
Any difference between oem and retail?
I'm planning on going for the cheapest duron I can get to start then move up when I've figured the mb & cpu out.
Are all the 1.2's factory unlocked?

I've tried 3 different durons
700 750 and 800.

700=856
750=950
800=1000

All on a MSI K7T Pro2-A board with FOP32-1
Stuck with the 800 which is now running at 9x111mhz

My 700 Duron does 945 stable now, can hit 950 but crashes after about an hour of UT. Had to change around ram settings A LOT to get it stable. I have crappy ram I bought when ram was pretty expensive. I want to get rid of it pretty bad (sell it). I would say go with the 800 Durons, I think im pretty safe in saying that right now they will give you a better chance at a gig than the rest for not much more cash. Also i have a crappy heatsink (Cooler Master), 80mm Sunon 36CFM doesnt help too much as my full load temp is 51C! how long will my processor last? I have to save some allowance for the new GW hs/f coming out (wbk38 I believe). lol everyone pity me and my poor self.

i have 3 600mhz durons, they will hit 750mhz 900mhz and 950mhz all on the same system, with plenty of cooling. (fop32) 35 degrees. (hehehe, just goes to show alot of it is luck in what cpu you get)

Note: those speeds i mentioned were totally stable speeds, not the fastest they could go, just the fastest they could go stable
