I know, I know - I should just quit smoking... I'll save that goal for when I'm less stressed out, but right now I'm just looking for an option a bit better on my lungs. Any brands you guys recommend? I'm not a very heavy smoker (a pack every 3 or 4 days), if that makes a difference.

I've been smoking ecigs for about 4 years now, and have tried many different types and brands.

If you want a cig sized one, go with either the Smokeless Image Volt, or the Joyetech eRoll. If you want one bigger than a cig, get any of the million versions of 'eGo' style ones out there. If you want the best and most expensive, get a Provari.

The 'container' for the liquid is either a cartomizer, atomizer/cartridge combo, clearomizer, or tank. There are many different tanks and clearomizers on the market.

I recommend finding a reputable local store that ONLY sells ecigs in your area to test or try out different gear before buying, unless you go with one of my two cig sized recommendations - you won't find them anywhere but online for the most part.

I picked up a Joye Ego-T kit a couple of months ago.I now smoke 1-2 "real" cigarettes per day...soon to be 0.

Be warned...these aren't the same as a cigarette...you don't get that "first smoke of the day buzz" that is normal with real cigarettes...and they don't have the same level of "satisfaction" for the nicotine cravings...BUT, they do help...

Find a local shop and go see their offerings. Find a starter kit that offers larger batteries and refillable tanks. You DO NOT want the "cigarette-looking" ones sold in gas stations and such...
Do NOT buy one of these and immediately throw away your Marlboros (or what ever your brand may be) If you do...odds are, you'll fail at quitting. Use these when possible...have a real smoke when you NEED one...try to reduce the number of real cigarettes by one or two per day.

You can buy "juice" in a wide variety of flavors and nicotine strengths. I still buy tobacco flavored juices...and in "extra-strength" 24 Mg mix. (You can get up to 50 Mg...but that's supposed to be pretty dangerous and not advised)
Once I quit smoking...I'll start tapering the nicotine level down until I'm at 0 Mg....then eventually stop "vaping."

I agree with BoomerD, DO NOT buy the overpriced gas station / walmart crap.

However, the two cig lookalikes I mentioned are great, and would recommend. I've actually found myself using my eRoll all day instead of any of my mods, eGo's, etc, due to its superior performance.

Jesus Dude....You should be able to kick the habit easily! It's all in your mind man. I kicked the habit 10 years ago when I was down to a pack a day and never have looked back. Cigarettes were 2.70/pack when I quit and now they are close to 7/pack where I live now.

I know a few locals who have switched to the lavatube e-cigs...

http://lavatubeecig.com/

I'm considering it...I like the adjustable voltage and (with some models) adjustable amperage options to adjust the strength of the vapor.

I was somewhat surprised to learn that there's a whole "sub-culture" of folks who "vape" because it's "cool."

By the way...find a shop that sells American-made e-juice. Many places sell Chinese stuff...and I don't trust the quality or ingredients.

There are a bazillion different brands and manufacturers...in a bazillion different flavors and nicotine strengths...find one you like.

I use an Joyetech eGo-T Mod 18650 and Vivi Nova 3.5ml tank. With this setup I dont have charge or refill for awhile. I get my juice from Halocigs.com. I was smoking about a pack every couple of days, and while not as good as a real cigarette, its close enough.

Lavatubes kick ass. Variable Voltage/wattage is awesome if you like to switch flavors a lot or if you use liquids of different types (50VG/50PG, 100VG, 100PG, etc.).

There is a large subculture of vapers, check out the largest e-cig forum in the world to get a glimpse of it.

Which one? I browsed a couple from time to time when I was first getting started.

I picked up a Joyetech eVic about a month ago. Adjustable voltage/wattage. Works pretty well. Plus, you can connect it to your computer and download new software as it comes available.
I also grabbed a couple of tanks at the same time. Both hold a fair amount of juice so I don't have to refill during the day.

I just picked up an eGo-CTwist (one of those kits they sell at every smoke shop), literally a week ago. Haven't touch a real cig since.

It's not the same as a real cigarette. Don't go into it thinking that it'll be a replacement. But it DEFINITELY takes off the edge while you're quitting... the horrible headache, the agitation, the craving. It doesn't go away completely, at first, but it becomes manageable.

Get some good vapes though. Mt. Baker Vapor has a lot of good choices.

Look into an atomizer, or a clearomizer - rather than a cartomizer. The former two are refillable, so you can just purchase whatever flavors you want and keep refilling your tanks.

Yes, cartridges are proprietary, but there are a few "standards", which lots of different brands build off of. The eGo-C is probably the most common.
