I have had a cheapo electronic shaver for about a year now, and it just broke. Well, thought I would ask for a good one for christmas from my parents or something. Anyone know which one is a really good one, and why?
I use the Norelco Advantage and really like it. It's the one that has the shaving-cream dispensing packets built in. Its also a wet/dry so you can use it in the shower. If you have sensitive skin its great, the lotion eliminates any kind of irritation. You do have to buy packets now and then, but they last fairly long if you don't overruse them. Normally I just shave in the shower with it though and don't even use the lotion packets since its easier to clean while you are in there. It does seem to give a closer shave if you do it with the lotion instead of plain water though.
The only real con I have with it is that it doesn't work well if you neglect shaving for too long - doesn't like long hairs very well.
I would have to recommend the Braun 7550. The ones that clean themselves. The microfoil/cutter/microfoil combonation has always worked better on my face than others and I love the cleaning system. I know it doesn't seem like a big deal to clean it but you don't want to after you get used to not having to worry about it. I shave then throw the saver in the base that comes with it and then it cleans and charges itself. You do need to buy the cleaning cartiridges, you go through about 1 a month but you can buy them in 2packs for like 10bucks.
I had been using the circular type of electronic razors for a while and they just didnt cut it on me. I can go a day with no shaving without looking too too shabby so I decided to try something else. My neck hairs were what always gave me the most problems so when I looked into getting a new razor the Microscreen's extra cutter thingy looked like just the thing I needed.
It has an extra cutter that pops out to two different levels.. one for cutting longer hairs and a lower setting for neck hairs. It works along with the 3 microscreen cutters and it works wonders, just as close as a blade would get but with out the irritation.
Braun 7550 rules! Having the shaver always clean is a Godsend! I hated cleaning the shaver in the past, yet if the shaver is just slightly dirty or not lubricated, its performance suffers greatly! I look quite "grizzly" if I skip shaving for even one day and I got tired of using Mach III's. The cleaning carts do last a long time. The cleaning cycle is kind of noisy, but so are dishwashers!
You can't beat 13,000RPM in the shower! Plus, I've had one for 3 years now and never had to change the foil or head.
I've gone through 2 Brauns (high end ones too) and though they are nice, you need to dry shave with them and that sucks. The worst is when those Braun foils break. Can you say paper cuts all over your face?
I highly recommend to check out Ebay for these things. I got mine for $50 brand-new while the retail was $129! :Q I'm happy, I got the MS-4000 version.
I have the Norelco Advantage now and am pretty disappointed. It doesn't have any sort of close shave whatsoever and the lotion crap is just annoying, as it doesn't help the closeness whatsoever. I always have red bumps (irritation) on my neck afterward.
I'm looking into getting the Braun 7550 simply for the fact the it self-cleans. I've come to the conclusion that keeping the electric shavers thoroughly cleaned is very very important.
Any other experiences using either of these razors?
I've had 2 brauns and the panasonic wet/dry. The panasonic just died on me so I thought I'd try a norelco with the three rotating heads. I don't get any where near as close a shave with that. I'm just waiting for the 21 days to be up so Norelco can buy this POS back from me and I can get another braun.
