Best Form of Payment?

I'll be selling a boat in a couple weeks, Buyer is in another state about 250 miles away. Amount is close to $10,000.00 what is the best form of payment? I have met the buyer and he seems very honest. He said he would pay however I wanted it. I will call my bank in the morning and ask them, but thought I'd ask here first.

Paypal for a deposit ($500?) certified cashiers check for the rest. You may want to call the bank when you have it in hand or mail him the title after it clears. Stay away from money orders and checks because they are easily forged.


wire transfers can be reversed too I believe.

Cash sounds good to me too. Is it too much to ask someone to pay in cash, $10,000 With the person being from out of state?

Your bank cannot remove funds unless you authorize them or they receive an indemnity from the sending financial institution.

2) Cash and be prepared to fill out a CTR if you have a cash transaction exceeding $10,000.00 or more in one business day. Unless you're laundering money or financing terrorism, you have nothing to worry about.

3) Cashiers Check or Money Order - these can be forged

Agreed on wire transfer. You cannot take back a wire transfer, when i did one to send $6k to buy a diamond this was made abundantly clear to me by the woman at the bank.

Wire is good...but one thing.

You don't fill out a CTR...the bank teller does. They will have all your info on file so they won't even mention it to you...
