Best format for GPS .

I want to know what's the best format for both video and audio because i just bought a GPS(actually it's an all-in-one, can't tell it's name in english.. but i'd say multimedia car device) for my car. It says that it supports MP4 but it actually doesn't. I have a dvd with some MP4s on it and it says unsupported format . Tell me what to convert it to.

You can put different types of audio/video codec within a mp4

You need to check what codecs the device supports

Likely some combination of mp3+ mpeg4 avc/ h264

Oh thanks for fast reply firstly. I have seen some "MPEG4" sticker on it. Now, what i have to do is to convert mp4 to mpeg4 and it will run the file both video and audio ?

A lot of people use mp4(container) and mpeg4 interchangeably

Even within mpeg4 standard, there are multiple codecs(h.261, h.264 etc...)

Try converting a file and see?as I said, its easier to look at the manual and see exactly what codec it supports (if the manual has that information)

"MPEG4" may refer to the previous standard ASP (such as Xvid) rather than AVC/H264.

Search for the device's specs and compare to the file specs (use MediaInfo or a video editor).

Well that GPS i bought from a friend, he was just using it as GPS, i have no idea what brand it is and it's face give me no clues aswell.. Whatever.. i'll try converting to mpeg if it doesn't work i'll just listen i guess.

I can only see "Normal" and "High Profile". MOREOVER i don't have idea about a thing written there, tell me step by step if you want to help me. I choose the folder, then ?

Handbrake calls it baseline profile. Commonly used on portable devices with hardware 264 support.

Getting quite demanding.

Google this crap. Handbrake is actually very easy to use.

Eh.. i "encoded"(i think) the files to mpeg4. I will burn them on a dvd tomorrow and see if it works

Are you maybe thinking of a cars entertainment center, which usually has a gps program in it?
