It's hard to pic a fav of all the above. But Jackfruit is definitely in the top 3. Sooooo good if you can get it fresh, basically not at all here in the west :'(

Papaya is definitely not the worst fruit. IMO, that credit goes to Grapefruit.

I am missing that very much.. not just the taste.. but the smell of ripe jackfruit. It takes about 30 years for the tree to bear fruit and just passing by the tree when the fruits ripen is an experience of its own. Damn.. I feel like going back. :'(

Honeydew Melon. Nothing else compares. /thred

In an alternate universe I made different decisions in life and my internet nickname there is endthreadfred. But I still decided honeydew melon is the #1 fruit of all time. That's how good it is.

Fruit bearing 4-14 years pending the variety.

I need to try some durian. I can't imagine it being worse than fresh papaya.

Depends on which papaya you're talking about.

The traditional "Hawaiian" papaya...I like very much, but the "Mexican" papaya, AKA meridol papaya...I don't like the taste or smell.

I don't like them as much as lychee. They have a bit of a nuttier flavor I think.
Depend on the variety, most variety are much tastier than lychee fresh off the tree, however they ferment/rotten quickly when ripe due to the sugar content.

You will never find the best variety that are almost seedless, because they are treated like treasure and usually consume by the locals (this variety normally fetch 3-4X the price of the varieties that we find here in North America).

There is also a practically seedless rambutan variety that can be found only in Thailand and it is absolutely the best rambutan ever (more fragrant and sweeter than the regular rambutan, and also fetch 3X price premium over that of regular variety).

<---- Grand parents had almost 4000 hectares of fruit orchards, and rice field (unfortunately the communist took it from us in 1975).

[edit] I mean hectares instead of acres.

Its all about those dapple dandy pluots

We hit several of the local fruit stands over the weekend, buying peaches and strawberries for jams, plus looking for roma tomatoes to use for sauce and salsa.
We saw several different species of pluots. I usually buy a few of a couple different varieties.
SOME are fabulous, others not as good. The better fruit stands will let you sample before you buy.
Earlier in the summer, Apriums were available at a couple of stands. They're also very good.

I agree.

Certain variety I enjoy, and certain variety have a strong sweet/pungent smell to it that I can't bear and it is also too mushy.

I can understand the low opinion of peaches from those who have tasted only California grown. Come to South Carolina and eat a fresh peach and you will know.
