What game do you think has the best music/sound?

I thought the intro to civ 4 was pretty good, but there have to be others that are even better.

I thought the music in Max Payne 2 was nice. Max Payne 1 may have been the same/similar, I don't remember.

Quake 2 and Total Annihilation are the first that come to mind. Then various Final Fantasy tracks, mostly VI and VII.

Castlevania SOTN for PS1
Max Payne 2 for PC
Zelda Links Awakening for GB (not good music at all, just the best for GB)

Absolutely love the the Starcraft Terran music. Was really impressed with some of the tunes in Unreal Tournament way back when. Call of Duty 2 makes really good use of sound. Many of the Star Wars titles were great, but of course they've had the Lucas music/effects to use.

It's somewhat obscure, but the best game music album IMO is Soukaigi (by Hiroki Kikuta). It's a japan only playstation squaresoft rpg that's supposedly pretty lame, but the music is top notch. The style various from classical to pop to metal to new age. Search for the mp3's.

2 of my other favorites are Shining the Holy Ark arranged soundtrack (from a sega saturn rpg, by Motoi Sakuraba) and Actraiser Symphonic Suite (Yuzo Koshiro). Both games music was orignally done in synths, but the 2 arranged soundtracks mentioned here sound so much better. Shining the Holy Ark sounds like Mahavishnu Orchestra (a rock jazz fusion band from the 70's) and Actraiser was done in a full orchestra.

And of course there's the classic Streets of Rage for sega genesis

Maybe you're thinking of Final Fantasy X or X-2. FF3a/FF6j was released for the SNES/Super Famicom.
