Is the Logitech f710 better or the xbox controller?

And do you suggest anything else?

I rarely use a controller, but sometimes it's just better. I've found the Xbox controller to be the best. The main reason is that most multi-platform games automatically recognize and configure for it. On the older Logitech that I had I was always mapping the functions prior to playing the game.

The mini usb cable (or whatever the cable type is). Google for the driver.

Only downside at least at the time was there were no x64 drivers for XP.

Xbox controller, plug and play for most PC games.
I highly recommend NOT using a PS3 controller with Motionjoy software.
It embeds itself and won't let go. It's awesome software...unless you want to use another bluetooth device in the future or want to fully uninstall it.
(And no, the newer versions don't fix this issue.)
Save yourself the headache and get a 360 controller, you can get them cheap on CL, and they aren't much more than the Logitech.

USB 360 controller.
Mostly because so many computer games are consolized and by default they have profiles for the 360 controller.
Also because it can easily be used for NES and SNES emulators.

I can't stand the 360 controller's D-pad, in case you plan on emulating anything - it's awful compared to PS3 controller.

Just to throw in another opinion, I've always loved Thrustmaster gamepads (although they're a bit tricky to find). I mostly use a Thrustmaster Dual Trigger these days, and I used a Firestorm Dual Analog in the past.

If you want the analog stick in the middle, get the Logitech. If you want it on the top left, get the Xbox one.

For me, racing games are a lot easier with the stick in the middle, because it lets you control the stick by bending your thumb. The Xbox stick position makes you steer by waving your thumb in an arc.

The Dual Power and Dual Analog has better buttons, IMO. I use a Dual Trigger, and while don't get cramps like w/a Sony (I partly got it for not being PC-only), button releases are not instant, and the buttons nor d-pad offer enough resistance for specific timing when moving between buttons. Outside of fighting games, it's not even noticeable, but it makes them extra difficult.

The Logitech F710 is nice and works well if you use the provided extender and place the USB receiver at the front of your PC. Feels well made.

Also the F710 (wireless) and F510 (cord version) both have rumble features and can use directinput or xinput at the switch of a button on the underside of the controller. So that means that it can act like a xbox360 controller or a logitech controller thus negating any concerns about compatibility with all your games. So the only issue is comfort level IMHO and durability of design.

Edit: I have the F510 and I love it. Works on all my games, feels sturdy, durable and fits well in my hands. Also the bottom triggers are analog triggers. This works great for racing games or any other game where you might want that nuance in button pressing that a analog trigger will provide.

I use the PS3 controller with trigger caps. The triggers are the PS3 controller's weakest point, but with the caps it is equal to the 360 IMO.

Wireless works perfectly with bluetooth, but I haven't tried any other bluetooth devices.
