the best keyboards are the ones you like the most. what i like might not be what you like. some people like split ergonomical keyboards with lights. some people like keyboards with extra buttons all over the place. some people like small mechanical keyboards with red switches. some people like keyboards with lcd display. some people like the cheapest keyboard you can buy. some people like wireless. really just depends what you want.

It's true that peripherals like a keyboard are subjective and we're all different. For the past several years I've preferred Logitech mechanical boards and currently use a g910 orion spark.

I've had trouble getting another keyboard for myself as well. I used to have a Sidewinder X4 and loved it. I got it around $40-50 years ago, and the cable went bad (it's sharply bent where it feeds into the keyboard and that split open). Now, I need to replace my current one, and I can't get another Sidewinder because they run $100-200, and it's just not worth the money. So, I've been trying to find a comparable replacement, but haven't gotten to looking too hard yet.

The Cherry MX 6.0 is a very good gaming keyboard. However, as others have said, the feel of a keyboard can also be as important as response time and refresh rates, and those are very subjective. Try to see if you can try each of the types of MX switches before you order. Personally, I like the feedback of blues and greens, but I also know people who swear by browns, reds and blacks. Personally, I use a buckling spring keyboard on my gaming rig despite the fact that it lacks n-key rollover and has a slower response because I find the feel to be great.

Thanks everyone.

I wish I could try them out Wall Street but Best Buy doesn't have any of these type of keyboards.

This more or less.

I don't even game that much these days, were a couple games in the past I'd use a MS split ergo for a main with a Logitech gaming separate keyboard with macros on it above it and a trackball.

My vote goes to Topre Realforce. Mechanical's are just annoying when 5 people have them on VOIP. Also the stock build quality is better than anything else I've experienced.

Corsair K70 RGB is nice.

This is what I use, my only complaint is the custom size bottom row of keys makes it a royal pain in the ass to find different keycaps for it.

So make sure you like stock keycaps, or be prepared to shell out $100+ for a custom set.

I have a small desk so I chose the k65 with mx reds. I was hesitant at first spending more then 35$ for a keyboard, but this k65 is a gem. Nice metal feel and look, doesn't slide around, the keys glide and under 100$.

K65? Corsair? Yikes. I'm on my 5th K95 rma. The damn LEDs keep going out. The current one is no more than 2 months old and two LEDs have dropped already. I'm considering RMAing one last time and selling it. I've had enough with defective designs.

That's pretty bad, im about 6 months in on my first K70 RGB and not a single LED is out.

That's good, knock on wood. They redesigned the LEDs on the new RGB models. The failure rate on the non-RGB models is catastrophic from what I've seen and read.

I have the G710+. It also has the most legible lighting I've seen with independent brightness for the gaming keys and six customizable keys for shortcuts or game macros, etc. I use one to put my PC to sleep.

Gaming keyboards for non-gaming applications?

I had two IBM M13 Trackpoint with buckling spring keyboards. They were pretty-much the best keyboards I had ever used, and the trackpoint was less fatiguing than a mouse.

Sadly, the cable frayed at the keyboard shell, so now they aren't usable.

Are there any inexpensive gaming keyboards, that would be close to the feel of a buckling spring keyboard?

Thats a strange question since I would think nothing else comes close to buckling spring.
The ibm spacesaver m4-1 keyboards have a trackpoint and have a good feel. for rubber dome. The spacesaver 2 is also recommended for a rubber dome.

to me, any keyboard as long as it's tenkeyless.

see that black thing he's got on his table? that's a mousemat. a HUGE mousemat.
i have the same.

playing low-sensitivity FPS games forces me to use much more mousepad space; also i need to hold my arms in a certain way to feel in control, so the more space i have for my mouse to move, the better it is.
