I got employee of the month at my work so they're giving me my choice of laptop from the vendors they work with. Basically I can choose a top of the line laptop from Dell, Compaq, HP, or Toshiba. Any thoughts on which is currently the best laptop out there for gaming??

Dell has the best features/newest video cards, well, usually.

I have an Inspiron 8000, and it's quite nice.

At work I just got an IBM A31p Workstation Thinkpad and it kicks major ass. Try to talk them into IBM.

I would consider the Compaq 2800T. They are taking orders for builds with the mobility Radeon 9000 now to start shipping sometime mid october.

Alienware looks cool
but if you want the exact same laptop (Sager) for cheeper (just not green) then take a look at powernotebooks.com
that's where i got my laptop
it has radeon 7500 graphics 256mb ram 1.8GHz P4-m and a 40gb 4200rpm hard drive
i use it as a desktop since i fryed my cpu in my athlon system and am too lazy to get another one..
the only thing that i notice as slow on it is the 4200rpm hard drive and sometimes i wish i had gotten 512mb of mem
the only thing that makes me worry is the fact that all the 5400rpm drives are IBM
i havn't heard anyone complaining about problems with their IBM laptop drives tho......
as far as the processor speed goes that is mostly secondary when considering these other components in my opinion
make sure you get a good display they are worth the money

I highly recommend the Dell Inspiron 8200. I have one and I love it. It has played every game I've thrown at it very well.

He wants a laptop out from Dell, Compaq, HP, or Toshiba. He can't get Alienware.

Out of those, I would get a high-end Dell.

If the compaq has the radeon 9000, then you need to get it. NEED to get it

I have an inspiron 8100 w/ the radeon 7500 and it rocks for gaming

Make sure you get the mobile version of the P4, or it'll use up too much power.

If you could choose from the other brand that you listed above then the other consideration is the Fujitsu Celcius.

It's one heck of a system.

Which do you think is better, the Dell C840 or the Dell Precision M50 which has OpenGL support?

Oh...and thanks everyone for your input! My supervisor is testing a Dell at work now so I can play with that for a while and see what I think. Not sure which model he has so I'll have to check that out....

Which is the best mobile graphics currently on the market:

The ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 with 64MB DDR Ram

or

The nVidia Quadro4 500 GoGl with 64MB DDR Ram

for gaming the radeon 9000 should stomp that nvidia solution
if you are gonna be using the laptop for cad, animation, and all that editing stuff then the nvidia Quadro "might" be better cause it's drivers would be optimized for such things since the Quadro is a business laptop card version of the regular GF4 Go (i'm not sure if there are many if any hardware differences)
but the radeon 9000 outperforms Nvidia's fastest GF 4 GO by like 10 to 20% in most everything
the radeon 9000 is the newest and best laptop graphics solution
