This might have been asked but as of today I would like a 17 or 19" monitor that is the best for gaming. I have a Sun Micro Systems 21" CRT and need some space and I only game with my PC.

I have a Samsung 21.3" LCD (don't know the model number right now) and it looks great. My only complaint is that the top resolution is 1280. It looks good and plays well. Have to turn up the gamma though.

I haven't had any issues with my Dell 2001FP...just as good as my old 17" CRT...not to mention the enormous screen.

i'll second the 2001fp, or if you cant find dell near you, there are many other manufacturers with identical (using same panel) offerings.

if you dont want to spend so much the 19" Samsung/ Benq 12ms models are great too

So no LCD is as good as a CRT yet?

I think they are already better. Do some searching on the forums and you can see tons of threads about it. I have had my 192t for around a year now and I think it is much better then the high quality 21" CRTs I have. But people's opinions differ on whats better between and LCD and a CRT. I am firmly in the LCD camp though. But just do so searching on here and you can find tons of discussions about it from myself and many other people going into much more detail if you want.

Would the 17" LCD's perform better than 19" and 21" LCD's?

I don't think so. Now that sub 20ms panels are out in 19"+ sizes the one thing 17" panels had going for them is gone, other then price. On the other hand mine is rated at 25ms and I don't have any ghosting issues. Rating response time is kind of hard due to all the factors involved. I think the main thing to go on is reviews. I wouldn't consider a 17" personally due to its small size. I used 21" CRTs for years (and still do on secondary systems) and had to get at least a 19" for my 1st LCD, its pretty much the same viewable area as most 21" CRTs. My next monitor upgrade will be a 213t, unless somebody comes out with something I think is better for under $1400 or so. Assuming money isn't an object (this excludes some super high res LCDs from IBM and a few other people that cost $5k+) if I was buying one today the list would go something like this in order of preference

Samsung 213t
Dell 2001fp
Samsung 193p (I might get this over a 200fp though, not really sure. But definetly a 213t over either.)

Anyways, I would get that largest and highest quality you can afford. If you can get a 19" or larger do it.

i nabbed a sharp ll191a-b 19inch 16ms w/ an LG phillips panel (same as 2001fp minus one inch) from frys for $500 with 0 dead and/or stuck pixels. no dvi but doesnt need it IMO as analog can handle the bandwidth of SXGA (1280*1024). dont get me wrong, when the DVI version comes out ill get one of those if it matches. if not... boo hoo i dont match.

to see the top contenders on an even playing feild i present you the following:

Dell 2001FP AT Review
Sharp LL191A-B AT review
Samsung 172X AT Review
Samsung 193P AT Review
Samsung 213T AT Review
Sharp LL191A-B AT review
Shuttle XP17 AT Review

Ctrl+C;Ctrl-V,
Y.A.F.

EDIT: i forgot to mention the difference between the 2001FP and LL191A-B that made me choose the sharp. at 20.1 inches and 1600*1200 the text, IMO, is tiny on the 2001FP in comparison the the sharps 19 inches at 1280*1024. if youre stepping up from a 17" CRT at 1024*768 (as i did) you seem to truely gain a larger screen rather than more desktop space.

UT runs pretty well on my Samsung 710T. There *is* a slight blurring, but you really do have to look fairly hard for it... it's definitely not an issue while playing the game. And I'm definitely one to complain about every small issue I've come across.

There is a backlight issue on mine, but I'm sure it's just my unlucky nature. We'll see after I exchange it for a new one.
