Best gaming mouse out there?

I've been looking around for a new gaming/general use mouse lately, and I thought I would solicit the advice of all the knowledgeable people on this forum.

I'd be looking for a mouse to be used primarily for gaming, including FPS. I'd want:
- Precision
- Smooth movement
- Wired (for response time; I know some people claim it's BS but I personally do *feel* a difference with a wireless mouse)
- Good scroll wheel and decent, but not overwhelming, set of buttons
- Comfortable (I'm right-handed and have rather big hands, I tend to like bigger mice)
- Quality/long lifetime (I'd prefer to not buy another mouse in the next 5 years or more)

Does anyone have any recommendations?

i've used the copperhead for fps gaming. its light on its feet and its rubberized all around so i never slip.
its no good for desktop usage tho, its too sensitive, the slightest movements shakes the cursor

I have used the Razer Diamondback for some time, and find it to be an exceptional mouse for all-around use as well as gaming. I have a Copperhead as well, and have found it to be no better or worse- it just feels different, and may be more comfortable for those with larger hands. I do like the side buttons on the Copperhead more than those on the Diamondback, due to their larger size and greater tactility.

Contrary to the previous poster, I do not feel the higher-DPI mice are too sensitive for general use. You always have the option to turn down the sensitivity, while preserving the advantages of the higher-DPI sensor. A good quality mousepad or mousing surface makes a big difference as well.

Your choices will probably come down to Logitech vs. Razer. The Diamondback uses the same optical sensor as the Logitech MX518, while the Copperhead and G5 share the same laser sensor, so it really depends on whether you prefer a lower-profile mouse that is better suited for finger control (Razer) or a higher-profile mouse tailored towards palm/wrist guidance (Logitech). Some of the more recent Razer models are in-between in terms of profile, but I have no first-hand experience with those.

With respect to quality and scroll wheels, there is little difference IMO. The "gaming" grade mice from both companies are very well-built (with the edge for customer support going to Logitech). The Razers have a bit of a softer scroll and a stiffer wheel click compared to the Logitechs I have used; I prefer the way the Razer scrolls, but better like the way the Logitechs click.

I'd go with Razer, but personal experience has taught me not to go back to Logitech. Your a rightie? Look at the DeathAdder, Copperhead and Diamondback are smaller but also of an ambidextrous design.

The DeathAdder is the same shape. Edit: The new Salmosa could also be one for the RTS's and Mumopurgers.

I use a mx510 for daily stuff and most games for the added functionality of the buttons and have a G7 pretty much solely for CS:S since I don't need the extra buttons there. I also find the plastic finish a rediculous choice of material on Logitech's part and only get this mouse if you 1) Don't get sweaty palms/fingers during use 2) Pick up the tacky looking fake carbon fibre finish model which at least has a rubber grip and most importantly, 3) Won't miss having the extra side thumb button.

My mx510 is getting old and I have been looking to replace it and have checked out both Logitech and Razer's offerings, narrowing my three candidates down to the new G5, the DeathAdder and the Lachesis. The new G5 of course is basically my G7 with a extra button, weights, and a cord. This is all fine however the shape, while very comfortable somehow doesn't QUITE fit me, so I'm looking to try something slightly different. The Lachesis people find to be slightly uncomfortable due to the raised back that sits quite far back on the mouse (raising your palm up and your fingers sit down, but fully extended) though if you need the extremely high 4000 DPI then maybe look into this, though most ppl game between 400-2000dpi. The DeathAdder seems to be the optimal choice for my needs. It offers better real world tracking speeds than the other two and people prefer this over the Lachesis. Furthermore, having been out for over a year now, the initial flaws have been ironed out so you're fairly sure to receive a excellent copy.

I have quite big hands, I mean bigger than most everyone around me. yet I hate the feeling of something sticking to the bottom of my palm, so I cannot tolerate big mice. MX518 was something different though; while it looms quite big at a glance, the actual shape of it allows a quite comfy grip.

Razer mice, I assumed at first, would fit me better with smaller overall footprint; however, their long shape felt awkward. mx300/310 are by far the best when it comes to the shape for me.

IMO, aside the apparant difference between optical and laser, it mostly comes down to how well the mouse fits to your hand. Just how many more mice is razer going to release? I am sure all there stuff is quality and up to the stuff, but their hyping machine must be working real hard to pump out mouse after another mouse non-stop...

MX310 is nice! Comfortable for hours. I've tried microsoft, reaper, razor but this mouse is the most fitting for my hands . Don't really care about all that higher dpi, 16bit data path, etc.

Update for you, got the Deathadder today. Couldn't get the mouse to work on my old system (I'm on holiday back in Hong Kong), tried 6 USB ports and it only got the scroll wheel light up but other than that no response from the mouse. (This system played up when trying to install Vista on a different HD, it was picky about the CD drives) Motherboard is a old Asus A8V Deluxe.

Plugged into my mothers computer and it worked instantly. Same thing with my dads computer. Possibly not enough power from the USB ports on this old motherboard? not sure. Put latest drivers and firmware onto mouse, not a hitch. Scroll wheel rotates smoothly and all buttons work fine. Side buttons are softer than I was expecting though I'd say are about on par with the logitech MX510/8/G5/G7 buttons. Main left and right click buttons seem to require half as much force as the Logitech mice. The top 'rubberized' sort of grip feels great and not rubbery or sticky at all, which imo is better. Scroll wheel has indented notches in it and has a tactile but silent notched feel when scrolled. Overall feel of the mouse, as I was hoping, is actually MORE comfortable than the Logitech's though I play with a claw grip and have large hands. For palming, I would probably say the Logitechs are better as your fingers wont go off the edge of the mouse and be left hanging and the shape at the back is more supportive of your palm. The glossy sides seem to be slightly different than the G7 and perhaps due to the different angle are very grippy indeed.

Of course you'll want to try these mouses if you can to compare for yourself but I'm definately keeping this mouse.

IMO its the MX1000 but its no longer in production except in Bluetooth form. The Bluetooth version isnt any good though. You can still find the MX1000 on Ebay and like places. Its wireless though. Best wired mouse I have used so far is the new version G5 mouse.

MX1000 is a great every day mouse but is horrible for gaming.

I use a G7 for gaming and a MX1000 for everything else.

I decided to try out a new mouse. Creative 7600. So far I like the feel. This may be my new mouse because this mouse has perfect lift-off distance. With 2400 dpi I'm able to quickly swipe wherever without any cursor movement at all! Every mouse I've tried had horrible lift-off problems.

I have both a logitech G5 and a Razer DB, I definitely like the DB better, it feels a lot smoother and the clicks are more solid(imo). However the G5's cord feels a lot more stronger, sometimes I worry about the DB's thin cord.

Let me just say, it's generally known out there that Lasers are still inferior to high end Optical mice, Lasers tend to screw up when being moved quickly. Many have listed already, but I'd recommend anything that isn't laser by Razer.

G9 is awesome, but price is a tad high. The G9 is the only mouse I've had where it didn't feel weird to use for the first couple of days. This thing just fits your hand comfortably. I was owning right after I plugged it in. It's easy to customize with weights and the extra grip. Best mouse I've had. Better than the G7. Also the Teflon feet on the G9 are just awesome. The Razer DB has horrible mouse feet IMO. It has a lot going for it, but the mouse feet are a dealbreaker. Could get some extra mouseskates on that thing though.

Love my Death Adder, been using Razer mice since they came out, I've tried others but always go back to Razer.
