mx500, mx700, MS explorer 3 or intellimouse. These are the 4 to try and choose between, the rest it is purely down to personal preference and opinions are always split - theyre all right and theyre all wrong, because its preference and there is no "best" for all. these 4 account for 90% of gamers mice though so if youre looking for reccomendations all four are it.

technically, the razor mystify boomslang 2100 is the best mouse for gaming. technically doesnt count because its down to personal preference, but if you actually see one in a store I'd definately have a go and see what you think. it is £60 in the UK etailer though, nearly twice the price of other corded mice. this might drop when more than one place over here gets it but i'd still expect it to be a more expensive mouse.

oh yeah, and a quality mousing surface ("mouse pad" is soooo old ) makes plenty difference too, and there's plenty options although fUnc sUrface 1030 is widely held as teh 1337 - i do prefer it over my old ratpad, on my intellimouse optical anyway, though the larger rats are bigger and might be preffered if you use a low sensitivity.

Theres nothing wrong with the Logitech software anymore. Despite what people say. Install it and you can monitor you battery level, what channel its set to, and set the extra buttons to almost anything.

why? its not like an ipod with nonstandard nonremovable batteries. its standard nihms you can keep a 2nd pair on charge if your really lazy about charging and worried about running out. in a pinch you can steal batteries from your remote control or sex toys

But, i can't position my hand quickly enough for burst shots when rounding corners, especially at lower sens. rates.

Since nowadays I play mostly on pubs, it doesn't matter. But against better players, having a weird mouse hurts your performance ability.

In addition, the MS explorer (didn't get it from intellimouse optical) gives me carpal tunnel from repetitve clicking from diablo 2 and to a lesser extent neverwinter nights (which i played through 3 times). It got so bad, i used up my index finger, middle finger, ring finger....finally it got so bad i was clicking with my pinkie. 20 hour stretch of nwn really killed me.

I'm gonna buy me an mx500 and try it out.

LOL

I'm sorry but the idea of someone "running" through their fingers and clicking insanely with their pinky while Diablo2 or something in on the screen made me laugh for like 5 minutes...even now I'm still struggling.

Have you thought about stopping? What do is I haven't ever felt this but twice or thrice in the past 3-4 years while i'm typing it does feel weird and I just stop using the computer heavy duty (IE: typing - surfing the net is okay) for a week and then i'm fine again.

But that must be a LOT of games to spend your singers like a heroin addict does his veins

No they don't.

I play mainly BF 1942 now.

I've got an MS Intellimouse Optical and I love it. No rubber pads on mine. It's got like hard plastic pads embedded in the bottom that glide easily across wood, plastic, cloth, etc.

I've never tried the Logitech mice. I tried an MS Optical Explorer, but I didn't like having both side buttons on the same side. For gaming, I prefer having a left side button and right side button.

And I'm really happy with my MS Internet keyboard.

Well I'm sure you've gotten one by now, but........

Can't go wrong with my MS Trackball optical. Haven't tried the highly touted Logitech mouse's, but my MS mouse is great. I don't have to move my whole right hand all the time just my right hand thumb, and its very high precision. Plus it comes with a wheel and two extra buttons on the edges for a total of 4. All 4 buttons are programmable with the MS software. I'm not really into wireless, as it seems too much of a hassle to keep up with batteries and all, especially with my trackball mouse. BTW, my mouse goes for about $30 now.

I'm sure this info is not new to most, but just in case the few that don't know for sure.

Just my $0.03

dual opticals sensors are inferior to the mx though.

he didn't use the correct word. against the logitechs the ms mice do "feel" like rubber though, because they use standard plastic instead of the logitech teflon feet. the main gripe is their inferior resolution. 400dpi vs 800dpi. doesn't matter how fast you refresh a low resolution, its low.

ms multimedia natural keyboard ain't bad.

I'm thinking it's your 20 hour gaming sessions that are giving you CTS and not your mouse, although your mouse could be a contributing factor.

In so far as the OP's question is concerned, Logitech and MS both make excellent mice with very good resolutions. Definitetly get an optical mouse as ball mice are a thing of the past. Once you go optical, you'll never go back. Many people say the same thing about wireless, but some wireless mice have performance issues. The logitech wireless is the best one on the market by all accounts due to it's improved radio technology for transmitting data. It is indistinguishable from a corded mouse. After that, all I can really say is go to the store and see what they have. Feel the actual mouse in your hand and see which one is most comfortable for you. I fully intended to buy the MX700 last time I bought a new mouse, but after trying it in the store for 5 minutes I decided not to. I found the placement of the scroll wheel to be awkward and uncomfortable when doing a lot of scrolling, and I didn't like the overall shape of it. It was too convex for my taste, I prefer a mouse with a shallower curve to it, so I chose the MS IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0A.

Got an mx500 a little while ago and love it. I tried the ms, but didn't like the feel of it and the mx700 seemed like more of an annoyance than having a cord (which doesn't bother me at all). A couple friends who do a lot of gaming use the logitech trackball and they rave about it (although I've never been particularily fond of them, one friend regularily schools me (and most other people) in bf1942 and CS). I'd just go try the mice and see which one you think is most comfortable and accurate.

I live in Sweden, that's Europe for all you Americans that don't know Sweden from, well any other country

Anyway I'm using a Razor Boomslang 2100 and it kills both mx500, MS Exp3. I still have to clean it out now and again though.

PS: Yes, of course I own and have used all 3 mice I took as examples!

I assume you mean balls, not wheels. That was true a long time ago. Now, most optical mice have a superior resolution.

i don't have a problem with my civic, but i'd rather have a g35.

Answer:
You've mistaken a higher imaging rate for higher resolution. The IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0 (reviewed here), like other third-generation-sensor Microsoft optical mouses, has an increased sensor imaging rate - 6000 images per second, versus 2000 from the second-generation sensor and only 1500 from the first generation one. But its resolution remains the same - 400 counts per inch. So the maximum sensitivity you can possibly set it to without skipping over more than one pixel at a time somewhere is 400 screen pixels per inch of mouse mat, not including "acceleration".

400dpi sensitivity is plenty for most purposes, but it's not good enough for 3D gamers who play with a very high mouse speed setting and want accurate aim for sniping. Then, the granularity of a 400dpi mouse's response is too large, and an 800dpi mouse (like a current-model Logitech optical) will probably be better.

The same can apply for people like you using graphics software, if you use a pretty high mouse speed and/or run a pretty high screen resolution, which isn't hard to do. 1280 by 960 at 400dpi mouse sensitivity requires 3.2 by 2.4 inches of mouse mat, and most experienced computer users with reasonable manual dexterity prefer something closer to 2 by 1.5 inches of mouse movement to cover the whole screen.

The high imaging rate of the third generation Microsoft mouses means they won't skip even if you move them very quickly; this is another feature that's more interesting to gamers than it is to the rest of the world. The current Logitechs have a higher imaging rate than the current Microsofts, too, but the Microsoft sensor's 6000 images per second is quite fast enough already, so that doesn't matter.

i had one of those ifeel. was alright until support died. mohaa had effects, and then its expansion didn't. that was sad. the windows fx were mostly useless though. and its sensor isn't mx level of course
