Best GeForce MX card???

Being the moron I am I accidently posted this in the Hot Deals section...my bad so here it is in the correct forum.

I keep reading rave reviews of the Prophet MX but I've had bad experiences with Hercules products in the past. I currently have an Elsa TNT2 based card and have nothing but priase for the quality of the card and have had zero problems with it. I guess what I'm asking is...is it worth it to buy a "name" brand like Elsa, Creative, ASUS, etc... or go with a "no name" like VisionTek?

Opinions please....

I've got an Elsa Gladiac MX and I love it. For the GeForce2 MX, I would avoid VisionTek. They ship their boards with 7ns sdram. 7ns chips are spec'ed for 143Mhz but VisionTek overclocks the chips to 166Mhz out of the factory. They run fine at 166Mhz but it seriously hampers overclocking abilities.

For what it's worth, the December issue of PCWorld gave a #1 rating to CardExpert's GeForce2 MX. I have never heard of CardExpert before but it's a 4X AGP NVidia GeForce2 MX chip with 32MB SDRAM and 350MHz RAMDAC. If you go for the version that doesn't have TV-Out it runs about $109 plus shipping. At that price I think it's worth looking into but I'd like to hear the opinions of others here.

i think that visiontek makes the elsa geforcemxs, from what i've seen visiontek makes all of elsa's cards. they must have a different version for the elsa retails

the Guillimot 3D Prophet GeForce 2 MX is the BEST
it ships with 5.5ns ram (the FASTEST for gf2mx cards) and overclocks like a BEAUTY.....
the only prob is you might want to get a blue orb to cool it better, since the card uses passive cooling
also, dont get the OEM one, it comes with 7ns ram, get the RETAIL

I have an unopened CL Annihilator 2 MX that I got at Best Buy. I am now wondering whether I'd be better off returning it for a Profit Geforce 2 MX. Of course, the Profit is another twenty bucks and then if I want to buy a fan, that's another few bucks, etc, etc.

2D image quality is important too, yet I don't tend to run above 1028x768. Any diffence in 2-D?

Do you think I'd be better off spending the extra twenty bucks?

BTW, Can you point me to where I can find the so called blue orb for sale?

I also bought the CL 2 MX at Best Buy...it runs great i was able to overclock it to 230c/400m, and the picture quality of it looks fine.

Its best that you return that Creative 2MX DDR because it is slower than a regular GeForce 2 MX:
GeForce 2 MX: 166mhz(ram) x 128(bit bus) x 1(sdram) = 21248 (just a number)
CL GF2MX DDR: 143mhz(ram) x 64(bit bus ) x 2(ddram) = 18304 (just a number)
so you see, since the CL card uses 7ns DDR and a 64-bit bus, it ends up being slower than a regular GeForce 2 MX. Its the BIGGEST scam (if you want to call it that) that Creative Labs has pulled....
RETURN THAT BAD BOY ASAP!!!!

At stock speeds it was slower but the CL 2 MX seems to like overclocking.

Best is the Hercules but is also the most expensive, I have heard rumor said Cardexpert has total comeback on Geforce2 MX card with 5.5ns ram, fan, and around 135 dollars.

Hg321, I also bought the CL 2 MX and running 230c and 390m. 3Dmark is around 5200 and above(depends on which driver you are using, 6.31 apperars to be fastest for me). This replaced my G400 and I like the CL 2 MX so far. For just a tad over a 100.00 I think it was a fairly good deal based on the overclocking abilty.

Yea I got mine for under $100 and i love it....the 6.35 drivers were the fastest for me.

Can any owner of the CL Annihilator 2 MX tell me whether the boxed version comes with a software DVD player? I have need of one. The box does not mention that one is included.

For that matter, the Prophet GeForce 2 MX box does not mention any inclusion of a software DVD player, however one review that I read says that the prophet does come with it.

Since I need a software DVD player, the inclusion or lack there of, makes a difference in which one I'd buy.

I'll second the Else Gladiac MX - card overclocked straight away to 220/210 Core/Mem IN MY CASE, and came with a much larger heatsink than any other MX card I've seen. Been running rock solid with the 6.47 drivers for about 2 weeks now...
