What is the best 23''/24'' glossy LCD? I really like laptop LCD's on Toshibas and HP's and would like to find a similar screen for a 23''/24'' LCD.

Current top runner is a Apple CD.

Use: Documents (lots and lots of document reading)

Cost: Non-factor (business expense getting written off)

Quality: Best possible

Thanks in advance

What do you mean by glossy? Why would you want a "glossy" LCD panel? I assume you mean the frame, or something, because a glossy screen would just reflect light and lower your overall viewing experience.

By glossy, I do mean the screen which does reflect some light; but gives the screen a glass-like appearance. In short, I want a laptop screen but at 23''/24''. I find those screens much easier on my eyes than normal "dull" dell screens.

There aren't any at the moment as far as I know. Your best bet is the NEC 20WMGX2. NEC is supposed to release a 24" version next year.

I have the NEC 17" glossy monitor. Got sick of the gloss effect after a while.

Though I must admit that quake 4 wouldnt look better on anything else.

I checked out the Sony today. They're 23'' has washed out colors and wasn't as bright as I expected. I went back to inspect the Apple CD and noticed that the sharpness wasn't anything to write home about either. That being said, anyone see the HP 24''? Is the Dell 24'' all that its cracked up to be? I have an older Dell 19'' and next to my HP laptop with x-brite or w/e its called, the colors seem that much duller.... QQ

I have the earlier version of the Dell 24", and the cover glass is not at all glossy, so unless they have changed it for the 2407 it probably doesn't meet your specs. As for how good it is, it's a great monitor. There are better (faster, better color, etc.) monitors now, but for the price it was a great value.

the biggest glossy monitor is the 20 inch nec. it is way expensive like $650.

i have a 17" nec glossy that i got for fairly cheap a while back , and the coating looks awesome. i did not want to spend $650 on a 20" though, so i picked up a non glossy 24" for $550.

i bet the 23" glossy when it comes out will be $1000-1100. ridiculous. but oh so nice.

I am using the Acer AL2032A, which is a glossy 20.1 WS LCD. It has a 8ms G-2-G time, and I haven't had any trouble with any current game. I use it daily for CAD and love it. I paid ~$350 or so plus tax, and I think it was a great deal.

ah yeah that. i had the non glossy of that. the non glossy is pretty bad, but i guess the glossy is good.

there also was the acer al2051 which i think is discontinued now.

a 24 or 30" glossy would be nice though.

is there a plastic sheet or something you can buy to put over a non-glossy to make it glossy?

Why? Because technologies like NeoV Crystal, Opticlear, Xbrite etc give more vibrant colors because Matte finish is'nt distorting them. Sharper contrast because Matte is'nt ditorting it. Wider viewing angles. Better brightness actually looks alpine white compared side by side with a standard LCD. And a much clearer image w/o color shift.

Some people hate them though like you say for the back glare off a million watts lights above thier head...I think that's easily remedied by not having a window or light source behind user for light to reflect off screen.

Wont have any effect..actually make look worse. There is a lot more besides "glossy coating" it's special multi-layered optic filter set exact distance away for LC's to transfer pixel for pixel directly out to surface not bleed into others.

Thankyou for clearing up the FUD in this thread.

When paired with a good panel (obviously), you cannot beat the quality of a glossy finish display.

Which is why many of us love them.

Actually even a Cheap TN looks great with xbrite. Go browse the laptops at Frys (all lappy are tn) and compare Sony Vaios with other matte screens. Day and night difference.

I agree.

However, i know some don't.

I personally prefer a TN with Opticlear to an S-IPS or S-PVA w/o.

Yes, i just said that

Each to their own though i suppose.

You're crazy. Nothing beats IPS thats why they cost $200-$500 more. Add glossy optical filter to an IPS = golden.

Oh an OP I forgot to answer your question, I don't think there are any large ones yet but many are coming Q4 of this year.

I wish it was that easy.

If you're thinking of Dell notebook screens, they really are dull compared to other LCDs. I was admiring someone's Dell M90 notebook (super high end workstation notebook) and he was running it dual monitor with a Dell 2005FPW, and the desktop LCD looked WAY better than the notebook LCD, which in comparison looked all dull and washed out.
