Goddamn Epic. Freaking code monkey farm.

I don't know - my one friend from highschool joined them after graduating from college and he loves it. He said he's about to be promoted and I'm 90% sure he's already six figures + bonus. He would tell me his raises back in the day and they were ridiculous, over 10% plus cost of living increases on top of that.

He's been there maybe 5-6 years now.

I should tell the opposite story too -

When I went there for his wedding I met some of his co-workers (one was in his wedding). That guy got my e-mail from my friend and sent me an e-mail asking if I knew any remote positions he could take over (I worked remote at the time). I replied that we didn't but asked him why he wanted to leave Epic.

He basically said he was too stressed working there and he needed out ASAP.

Environment being physical surroundings, not co-workers, management, etc. Just to clarify.

If it's just your physical surroundings then I would still say it's important, but to me environment is all of those things not just one.

Eh, everything I've heard from people who at least have worked alongside Epic have been universally pretty bad.

The pay can be good, if you're above the muck, but otherwise, they burn you out.

Personally I would rather have cash money instead of "benefits" but again, these "benefits" are simply designed to keep you are work as long as possible as they are paying you salary.

Yeah I have spent literally weeks on the Epic Campus and know it pretty well. It's a funky campus and very "busy" because of all of the training events they are doing there. On any given day they can have a couple thousand extra people there in the form of customers getting training on their apps. And on certain weeks like their User Group Meetings it can be almost 10,000 extra people on campus.

I also have a coworker that is a former employee there and stress they put on their employees is pretty real. She won't openly badmouth the place, but she is happy to be out.

I always think back and think... I so want to work there even with the horror stories. But I take what people say and compare it to what I have now (*slightly* less pay, paid for any OT, near family) and I just have to believe I have it better. I've worked ONE 50hr week in the last year here, NONE have been over 40 outside of that. I don't have to wonder and guess, I know that was the time I put in.

My friend says he averages 40-45hrs a week but from everything I read (even the people that love it there) talk about 60hrs not being uncommon and 90hrs very likely in the mix. Either my friend is unique or in denial.

My company's space here in Atlanta has that same feel. One of our conference rooms is a shipping container with one side cut out for windows and a door. Just don't get used to so many dogs running around the office.

I think that would really be dependent on your job function. I'm guessing devs and QA will have retarded amounts of hours before major releases or if they are under the gun to got a critical SU out. If you are on the support side it's a little more normal.

SF location is meh...just a bunch of cubicles. Nothing special, but probably because Google doesn't own the building.
